neighbors this week.' May 19-47, are
the dates on which the First Annual
Pickle Festival will be held. As you
know, Mount Olive is known as 'The
Pickle Capital of the South,' and
rightly so. There will be something
going on every minute. .
The big show opens with a Grand
Parade at 3 P.M on Thursday with
bands,, oeaunes, floats and gla
mour. Edwards Military Institute
Land Oak Ridge Military Academy
along with other bands wiU fur-

rade., . .
Governor W. Kerr Scott and
Commissioner of Agriculture L.
Y. Ballentlne will each deliver time

The mysterious "Miss Sweet Pic
kle" will present the Governor with
an exaggerated replica of a cucum
ber at the conclusion of the parade.

As a climax on Saturday there
will be a coronation of the beauty
contest winner at the regular Amer
ican Legion square dance which
begins at 8 o'clock. During the
afternoon, more valuable prizes

TOWN ORDINANCE
The Mayor then stated that In
his opinion that it wouid be proper
for the Town of Kenansville to levy
a tax upon the owner of each dog
within the 'limits of the Town of
Kenansville.
After a full discussion, with all
members of the Town Board of
Commissioners present, It was mov
ed, seconded and carried that;
From and after the date of the
enactment of this ordinance, a tax
of one ($1.00 IDollar shall be lev
ied upon any firm, person, or cor
poration owning or keeping a male
dog In the limits of the Town of
Kenansville N. C, and likewise
t tat Of two ($2.00) Dollars shall
be levied against any person, firm
or corporation owning or keeping
female dog , within the Town of
Kenansville, provided, however, a
levy of one half of said sum shall
be made for the remaining portion
of the year of 1992.
' Upon the payment of the tax as
aforesaid a tag will be issued to the
owner of such dog, showing said tax
to have been paid, and such tag
shall be displayed upon said animal
at all times whether said dog is on
or off the owners premises;
For the purpose of determining lla
Wlrty hereunder, any person, firm,
or corporation owning or keeping a
dog on the first day of each calen
dar year, shall be subject to the
provision hereof; " :
The tax levied herein Is annual
and shall be paid in each and every
calendar year until this ordinance
is revealed.- - - ;
Any person violating the pro
vision of this article shall be guilty
of a misdemeanor and shall be
fined of amount not exceeding Five
($9.00) Dollars or imprisonment not
exceeding thirty (30) days. ' '
This Ordinance shall be In full
force after June 1st 199S. This
