Stalks and leaves should appear distinctly wilted and limp. The forage should feel cool and moist, but should show no free taoisture when twisted, rubbed, or "compressed in the hands. Usually two hours will be requir ed in the middle of a hot day for wilting, but one hour mty be suf ficient if there Is a good breeze. Additional time will be required if the crop is cut in the morning or late afternoon. Care should be taken Jto see that the crop is not cut too far ahead of silo filling during good drying weather. Crops cut late in the day can be left over night. Fresh unwilted crops should be used in the top layers of bath trench and tower silos.
