With many farmers buying hogs" for fall breeding the American Foundation for Animal Health warns that the animals should be tested for brucellosis both as fam ily, health measure and as insur ance for a better spring pig crop. Dr. C. D. Grinnells. department of animal husbandry, N. C. State College, points out that unduiant fever among farm families is often traced to swine that have 'been in fected with brucell-OiSis. To guard his families health and pocketbook the wise farmer will blood test the hogs on his farm, Grinnells added. The Foundation for Animal Health recommends itlut hogs which react to the' .blood test either be s:nt to slaughter or kept in Isolation, depending on the veter inarian's judgement. Further tests should then be continued at reg ular periods until no reactors are found. If any breeding swine show signs of bad ioints or lameness the Foun dation also recommends that they be given a health checkup. Lame ness and defective joints can be symptoms of erysipelas, infectious arthritis, brucellosis, or nutritional deficiencies. Foundation spokes me npoint out that accurate diag nosis is necessary to determine the nature of the disease so. steps may be taken to protect the rest of the drove. o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o o . 0 4 o O N o o o, o o o o o o o . t ) () o t) . o ' ( Henry Vann Tractor Company MODERN FARM111G , " " , WITH F0!tD TRACTOR and DEARBORN k' ,' ALSO .' ; X- : (IIJDF0.1D.
