Beta Club Officers President Sally Newton j Vice President Nancy Alphin r " Secretary - Carol Fay Burgess t Treasurer - Jean Quinn ' (v Reporter Doris Jane Caison Sponsor Mrs. F. W. McGowan I The music class of Mrs. . Henry Selhy held its midyear piano reci tal at 00 am, Tuesday, February 19. Twenty-nine music pupils play ed their selections, on the Grand piano lOj the Kenansville school auditorium. For some -of the small er kids in their first year of music, performing was quite 'a new ex perience. It was a show in Itself to watch their pride after having play ed. Those attending the recital were several students . from all grades, some of the, school teachers, and a few parents and other, outsiders. InltlBtlon astd8pbgea "You must be .used to eating with a knife at home, Rayl" Marjorie Cherry said. The whote table of spaghetti eaters doubled over with laughter. Wednesday night' Febru ary 8, the nine old Beta Club mem bers, 'plus Mrs. F. W. McGowan, their sponsor, were initiating ten new members into the organization in the Kenansville Home Economics Department Ray BelL one of the new members, had been making faster progress eating his spaghetti with a knife (an new members had to eat with knives) than most of the old members had been making by eating with forks and spoons. A toss salad served with a spagh etti supper was a 'hand to mouth' course for all those being initiated. But, to make their eating even more uncomfortable, former Beta members required them to we their clothes backwards! All during the meal, old members promised the new ones that the best was yet to come. For as soon as they had eaten, those being Initial ed donned aprons and washed the dishes. The old club members had one more trick up their sleeves when they told the new members they were going to carry them to Po ducksville. It seemed none of them could remember ever having been there, though it was a fact that all of them had been. But when the Beta Club wound up in Goldsboro, the new membess quickly recovered their memories and found it quite a nice surprise. The Beta Club saw the movie, "Vicki", at the Para mount theatre while there, and then stopped for refreshments at an Amoco grill just outside of Golds boro. i To sum the whole thing up, the initiation was a hilareous success. There's nothing I look forward, to with more anticipation, Than taking it upon myself To give initiations. x But though I very often bear The laughter of old members near, The victims of my talents never show appreciation. Look Out Hubert Look out Hubert Brown! Your barbering has competition. Bill Quinn received a free haircut from some high school boys during the Kenansville school lunch period, Tuesday.
