Tfae band is acclaimed by crowds whenever ; it appears; Last Spring they were invited to play tor the second consecutive year for the State Tederation of Music Clubs at their Annual Meeting in Charlotte. At that meeting Mrs. Ada Holding Miller of Providence, R. L and pres ident of the National Federation of Music Clubs, characterized the band as being, The best High band that he lad heard -anywhere in the United States." 1 The 3J. C' State Tederation pres ident Mrs. Laura Howell Norden, in an article on the band, said, "The performance of the band was mjii'Vpd by a fine musicianship and showed remarkable maturity. The performance was amething to re member and dream on. The per formance throughout was smooth and flexible and showed considera ble technical kiH. Mr. Dobson is an exacting conductor and his mu sicians are weQ trained to follow whatever effect he Indicates." In another article written by Mrs. Norden following the Band's fine Christmas Concert last December, she said, The Junior High Band is a full symphonic organization and is far-cry from the small groups of enthusiastic too tern trained by Mr. Dobson a tew years ago. This band has complete sections of wood wind, reeds, and brasses. It plays with a smooth tone, la decisive at tack and good phrasing. Mr. Dobson has won for himself the name of a great Junior High School conductor with his years of untiring work with this group. He is proud of his Band, and the peo ple of the Wilmington area are proud to send them out in the State for others to enjoy. Mr. Dobson is a native of Duplin County. Each year they march and play in Wilmington's Christmas and Az alea Parades. Last Spring they play ed for the N.C. State P.TA. They average twenty five appearances a year in cluding an annual Christmas and Spring Concert in Wilmington, the Easter Sunrise Service at Green field Lake, and a night concert at the World's Largest Living Christ mas Tree in Wilmington.
