a ceremony characterized with rev
erence and charm, Mrs. Hugh Fer
guson Hamrick of Shelby . and
Claries Brantley Penney of Wallace,
were united in marriage.
Pr. Zeno Wall, former pastor of
the bride at the ceremony, church
officiated with the double ring rites
and Mrs. Hubert Plaster was at the
organ for program of nuptial
music using the traditional wedding
marches and including in her med
ley. Prelude in A Major, Chopin,
Clair de Lune, Debussy, Poem,
riblch, Baararolle, 'Offembach, Es
trellita, by Ponce, Melodie by Mas
senet and used McDowell's To A
Wild Rose as quiet -background
music to the exchange or vows.
A giant circular burst design of
all white flowers, and greenery was
posed high In a floor basket to
mark the center of the alter where
the bridal couple exchanged their
vows, and white satin pewmarkers
designated the seats reserved for
family members.
The bride entered the Chapel on
the arm of her eldest brother, Gra
ham Randolph Logan, who gave her
in marriage. For her wedding en-
semble she chose an Oxford blue'

imported Italian silk suit worn with
French milan plateau bonnett by
Adrienne, wreathed with white li
lacs dotted with rhinestones, nestled
in veiling. Her other accessories
were navy blue and she had a white
orchid pinned at her shoulder. Her
jewelry was a beautiful twisted
checker of pearls, rhinestones and
blue stones with matching eardrops,
gift from the groom.
Jennings Bryan Penney of Rose
Hill served his brother as best man.
The new Mrs. Penney is a daugh
ter of Mrs. Hugh Allison Logan and
the late Mr. Logan of Shelby. She
was graduated-front Shelby High
School and attended Woman's Col
lege, U.N.C. Greensboro, since which
time she has been highly active in
Shelby social and civic life. She
past president ot the American
Legion Auxiliary, serving more than
one term was charter president of
the V. F. W. Post Auxiliary. She
has served as department officer
of that group and is currently de
partment Junior vice-president of
the VJVW. Auxiliary.- She is
member of the Literario Book club.
She is a past executive secretary
of the local Red Cross Chapter and a
former deputy clerk in the Cleve
land County Superior Court Just
prior to her marriage she resigned
her position as assistant Clerk of the
Recorders Court
The groom, son of the late Mr.
sad Mrs. Karly Robert Penney at
tended State College, Raleigh where
he was a member of Alpha Lamba
Tau fraternity. He attended MP.CX
in Mt Pleasant and is now associ
ated in business with his brother
in, Penney's Building Supplies, Inc.
in Wallace.

Forest Fire
Wilbert Sutton, a tenant on Mrs,
Clara Albritona farm decided to
burn field of grass and stubble.
He tractored fire lane around the
field as precaution. Where the
field started burning the wind be
gan blowing and the fire crossed
the' lane and raced for ' nearby
tobacco barns, fields and forest Mr.
Sutton and his help were no match
for the lire. They called the' county
fire .warden and asked, for .the fire
fighting equipment twij-fcours later
they arrived and the fir 'had cross
ed field, stream, highway and forest,
covering more than a' hundred
acres. No buildings were burned.
