The Crucifixion , AS the lenten season draws to close, the great drama of Holy Week is recalled by Christians everywhere. The day of the crucifixion Good Fr'i day is especially revered and the events of that dark day stand out sharply in the pattern of the Holy Week scenes. , Christians of all faiths will be interested in the announcement of the new religious masterpieces painted by the American artist, Ben Stahl and de picting the journey of Jesus from Pilate's house to Calvary's hill. . These paintings, done especially for a new edition of the Catholic Bible published in Chicago by-the Catholic Press, consist of a series' of 14 dramatlo. incidents on the Via Dolorosa. - Acclaimed already to be as fine as the religious art of the old masters and in some instances to excel famous paintings of the suffering of Jesus the series by Stahl was completed on a commission : from the Catholic Press. The 14 pictures will illus trate the Stations of the Cross in the new popular edition of the Bible an altar-size book for family user printed in two color type with many full color illustrations of Biblical scenes. Among the outstanding features of the Bible are the 14 page-size color reproductions of Stahl' g great illustrative art covering the story of Good Friday.- Drylol Feci!-!. Proves Prcfil:l:!e Harry ' Lanier, farmer of William ston, Route 1, used to turn his hogs out into field after harvest and leave them ' there to forage for themselves all winter., but not any After studying market ; trends Lanier agreed to "drylot feed" some of his fall pigs, according to R, McK. Edwards, Negro county agent for the Agricultural Extension Ser vice. - v. . " ' Edwards says that on December 7, Lanier put iS shoats averaging 60 pounds each on fuel feed com, 40 per cent protein, and minerals. On February 17, or .after 72 days, the hogs were sold. They averaged 203 pounds each, or a total weight of 3,045 pounds, and brought 25 cents per pound. Lanier grossed $761.25; at the time the demonstra tion was started the 15 shoats were valued at $225. Lanier's feed cost totaled $274 for 118 bushels of corn and 1,600 pounds of mixed feed. His total investment totalled $499.60, including the value "t of the pigs when the demonstration : got under way, A breakdown shows that Lanier received a Uibtst return of $26.65 hi 72 days - or about $3.63 per day. 'That's good money, espec ially when Lanier figures ie spent , only an hour a day feeding the - hogs. ' , . Convenience played a large part In Lanier's efficient operation, - says ' -Edwards. The hogs were enclosed ' . where water was already available. Self-feeders that required filling only twice a week were also emA ployed. -x , J At the time the feed lot demon stration started 24 other less fortun ate shoats were left to glean the fields for themselves.
