Grady school Parent-Teachers Association was held at the school Monday evening, April 12. Mrs. Rufus Swain, president, presided. Dr. John F. Powers of Wallace talked on Cancer and showed a film to that effect. Mrs. Emmett Kelly led a discussion on a proposal for rural fire equip. ment for th B. F. Grady area. No vote was taken but prospects are favorable and the civic groups of the community are being consulted, concerning the project. The following new officers were elected to serve for the new year: President, Emmett Kelly; Vice- President, Mrs. Hess Davis; Secre tary, Miss Grace Baker; Treasurer, Mrs. Dempsey Smith. These officers will be installed at the annual pic nic supper to be held at the school Monday night, April 26th. Mrs. J. M. Jones Hostess At Bridge Mrs. J. M. Plan Party The Presbyterian Young People f the Pink Hill Field are planning a party to be held in the Memorial Annex of the Pink Hill Church on April 30th. All members and pros pective members are most cordially invited to attend this party. New members are earnestly solicited. The increase In membership in this or ganization is encouraging, but it could be better. THE A F C AFC stands for A FINER CAROLINA. It is the name given the program begun in 1952 in the area served by ! this company and designed to build a Finer Carolina ' through community improvement - agricultural develop-1 ment and industrial expansion. The program is in the form of a contest among com munities and among farmers. The communities select and develop projects for the betterment of the community, and , winners of the contest are awarded cash prizes by Caro lina Power & Light Company. More than 100 towns and communities took part in 1952, anti worked on 887 projects ; for their improvement. Today 164 towns and communities are taking part. There are 1,500 farmers entered in the con test and working on soil conservation projects on their own farms. The Finer Carolina Program is growing in size and scope. Tangible results have been greater than anticipat ed throughout our service area. Naturally we are well pleased because - our future is the future of the area we J serve.
