Cavenaugh, Ruling Elder in the Warsaw Presbyterian Church, was elected as Moderator of the 186th Stated Session of Wil mington Presbytery, which was held on Tuesday, April 20, 1954, at the Topsail Presbyterian Church. Elder Cavenaugh was elected to succeed the Rev. W. B. Hood, pastor of the Wallace Presbyterian Church, who opened the session with the preaching of the retiring Moderat or's sermon. Elder Cavenaugh led the 150 delegates of ministers and elders from the 102 churches of the Presbytery in an . orderly process of conducting the business ' of the Presbytery. The feature speaker of the day was the Rev. Marshall B. Dendy, Richmond,. Virginia, Chairman of the Board of Education for the Southern Presbyterian Church, who as part of the report of Presbytery's Committee on Christian Education, spoke on "The teaching Opportunity And Responsibility Of The Church." Among other items of business transacted was the reception by Presbytery as a candidate for the gospel ministry Archie Faires, son of Mrs. Earl Faires and the late Mr. Faires, of Wallace. The Rev. James B. Nisbett, pastor of the Rockfish and Potts Memorial Chur ches was granted permission to dis solve his pastoral relations with these churches and to accept the position of Director of Christian Ed ucation in the Synod of Mississippi. The Rev. J. T. Hayter, Kenansville, was named by the Presbytery to serve as Director of Presbytery's Pioneer Camps, which will be held at Lake Singletary Camp on June 21-26, and June 28 - July 3. The Rev. Jack Ware, Carolina Beach, was named Director of the Young People's Conference at Flora Mac Donald College, to be held on June 14-19. Presbytery granted permission to the Webb Memorial Church of Morehead City to change its name to the First Presbyterian Church of Morehead City. Rev. James Walk up was received into the member ship of the Presbytery to serve as pastor of the Westminister Church, Whiteville, N. C. A delicious lunch of fried fish, fried chicken, and country ham was served to the delegates by the ladies of the host church. The lunch was served on the church yard which is a beautiful spot with us giant oaks and pine trees and which has recently been planted with beautiful shrubs, azaleas, and green grass. At the conclusion of the session Elder Cavenaugh was commended by the members of the Presbytery for his service of the day and the manner in which he conducted the meeting. Rose Hill Woman Arrested For Theft Ada Mae Everett, colored, of Rose Hill was arrested, Monday by deputy McKay for theft of money from a relative, Curtis Triplin. Triplin had brought Ada Mae and other rela tives to Kenansville last. Sunday to visit her husband, who was in jail on a forgery charge. After the visit, Ada was the first -to reach the car and finding Triplin asleep, slipped his bill fold. After taking the money from the bill fold she threw it in a gutter near the jail. Mrs. Oscar Houston discovered the purse and turned it over to the sheriff's department. When confronted Monday by deputy McKay, Ada admitted the theft and returned the money to Triplin. Tried before a local Justice of Peace she was placed under $400 bond for trial in Superior Court August 30. Failing to . procure a bondsman, Ada was placed in jail but was later released. ' Local Ag. McPhail announces his resignation as teacher of agriculture at the Kenansville school effective at the close of the agriculture teach er year (June 30) to leave himself freo to accent one of several offers pending at this time.
