"u-esent laws granting hospital care i veterans with nonservice-connect-d disabilities who are "sick, broke ind have no place to go.' This basic rehabilitation position f the American Legion was set orth today by Commander Mitchell Iritt of the Charles R. Gavin Post Mo. 127 of Warsaw. "This firm American Legion po rtion has been reaf limed by Its V-rtional Executive Committee," Commander Britt said. "It is sup ported by the House Veterans Af fairs Committee, of which Mrs. Edith Nourse Rogers, Republican of Massachusetts, is the chairman. This Committee by unanimous vote has ipproved A care of ronservioo-wi-lected neuropsy-chiatric and tuber "ular veterans. It has also endorsed he hospitalization of other groups if non-service-connected veterans ' here beds are available and the veteran does not have the ability 'o pay for private care." Abuse Charges Unfounded Commander Britt pointed out that nade its own thorough stud yof all ispects of VA hospital care. "The Committee failed Jo find any substantiation ox cnarges ox widespread, abuse of VA hospitali zation," he said. This Congression al study coincided with a bed-to- bed check of some 5,000 cases ox nonservioe-connected patients in VA hospitals. This American Leg on survey showed that in most cases the veteran had exhausted his private resources before he ap plied or was sent to the VA by his own doctor." Commander Britt said The Amer ican Legion is on record as demand ing strict compliance with the laws governing VA hospitalization and uemanding the. prosecution of any chiselers. To this end it has approv ed a fair trial of the addendum to the hospital admission form A Form 10-P-10 which now requires the listing of a&scst and liabilities and Mrs W, o' nonservice-connected veteran applying for hospitalization. Use of data supporting the American Leg 'his form has resulted in official ion bed-to-bed check of nonservice connected patients to the effect that the average veteran seeking such hospitalization is honest and goes to the VA as the court of last resort Auxiliary Sponsors Youth Highf The Legion Auxiliary sponsored Youth Might on Thursday night at the Legion Home.
