Visit In Texas
Mr. and Mrs." Horace Nethercutt
and son, Bright, and Miss Carolyn
Smith of Albertson have returned
from a 10 day visit with Pfc. and
Mrs. F. E. Smith, Jr., at Hamilton
Air Force Base, Texas. They went
via Tennesses, Arkansas, Alabama
and Mississippi where they visited
the J. C. Norris family, at their
home in Greenwood.

ing of the Veterans of Foreign Wars
and Auxiliary, held at the post
home there. Mrs. Rosemary Myers
of LaGrange was elected president
of the Auxiliary to replace Mrs.
Carolyn Bass of Greenville, who re
signed because she is moving from
the district.

State Has Dropped
. It has been reported bv the North
Carolina Department of Labor that
employment dropped 9,000 in the
State during the month of May.
The job declines occurred in tex
tiles, chemicals, furniture, and who
lesale and retail trade industries,

mid-May, compared with 984,600 in
mid April. The total wa sdown 27,
000-or 2.7 per cent below the level
of May, 1153, when 1,002,600 people

dustries reported a lower employ
ment level. In the State's giant tex
tile industry, employment was
down 6.1 per cent from the total
of May 1953. Yarn and thread were
down 10.8 per cent: broadweven

3.5 per cent.
