C , Edgar Beajamn Gammons : Gammons Becomes Auditor C?&TCo. Tarboro Edgar Benjamin Gam mons has been appointed auditor of the Carolina Telephone and Te legraph Company, according to an announcement by President H. Dail Holderness. Gammons, formerly with the Accounting Department of the Car olina .Company, has been with the Accounting Department of the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company in Boston, Massachusetts, since October 1992. He assumed his duties In Tar boro on January 18, replacing P. J. Long, who has served as acting auditor since the death of Auditor Robert A. Nelson on January 1. As auditor, Gammons will be re sponsible for preparing and main taining the records of the company, issuing monthly financial state ments, filing fgederal and state tax returns, and preparing reports which must be filed with various state and federal regulatory bodies. The new auditor was born in Rumford, Rhode Island; graduated from East Greenwich (Rhode Is land) High School; and attended Bryant College, Providence, Rhode Island, and Duke University. While with the New England Com pany, Gammons has been on the staff of the assistant comptroller. He was transferred in 1955 to the American Telephone and Tele graph Company in New York, N. Y. Here, on the staff of the com ptroller, he worked1 on revenue and IBM methods. Gammons i returned to the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company in January 1957 to man age the data processing center of the company. He Is married to the former Marilyn Coltrane of Smithfield, North Carolina, and they are the parents of three sons - Ben, Jr. 13, Gary 10 and David 2 1-Z.
