Seaman Manfeed Savage Manfeed Savage, seaman. USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Savage of Route 2, Box 399, Magnolia, N. C, is serving aboard the Pacific Fleet destroyer USS Floyd B. Parks which returned to San Die go, Calif., in mid August after a tour of duty with the Seventh Fleet in the Far East. While with the Seventh Fleet the Parks took part in Operation Har dtack, a serifs of test of nuclear devices in the , Eniwetok-Bikini area. Sailors from the Parks lear nrd to fire rockets to an altitude of over 100,000 feet and to track them in order to gain weather data. Pvt. Prentice R. Brock Army Pvt. Prentice R. Brock, 19 whose wif-. Mary, lives on Route 2, Mount Olive. N. C, recently ar rived, in Germany and is now a member of the 793d. Military Pol ice Battalion. Brock. a military policeman, was last stationed at Fort Gordon, Ga. He entered the Army in February of this year and received basic ror"bat training at Fort Jackson, S. C. Thurston, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Thurston. Route 1, Wal lace, N. C. is a machine gunner in Headquarters Company of the 24th Division's Infantry in Augsburg. He entered t'iie Army in January 1957, completed bash training at Fort Dix, NJ., and arrived in Eu rope in October 1957. The 23-year-old soldier was gra duated from Scotch Plains N. J.) High School in 1952. Gerry Bobbs Gerry Hobbs, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rupert Hobbs of Route 1, Fai son, N. C. graduated from recruit training Sept. 13 at the Naval Tra inging Center, Great Lakes, HI. The graduation exercises, mark ing the end of nine weeks of 'boot camp, included a full dress parade and review before military officals and civilian dignitaries.
