Unless properly hand led, birds that die are a constant menace to the health of one's own flock end to all the neigh boring flocks through the county. The Duplin County Extension taff in conjunction with ' the feed mills in the county, includ ing the three leading feed-mills (Ramsey Milling Company, Nash Johnson and Sons Milling Com pany, and Coastal Plain Milling Company) and along with many other interested persons, are spon soring a campaign to reduce the spread of poultry disease by re quiring that every poultry man in Duplin County install at least one disposal pit on every, poultry farm as oo a possible. If dead birds are left ly ing around the poultry house, flies, rats, wild birds and dogs, can Very easily get to the carcass and spread the disease over a wide area. A healthy flock can easily become endangered by a disease outbreak .because neigh boring birds ' are left LYING AROUND POULTRY HOUSES, m DITCHES, AND CREEKS AND ALONG ROADSIDES. Therefore, it is to the benefit of the poultry industry, the com munity, and -the county as a while to properly dispose of dead and sick birds, to prevent fur ther spread of any disease. New Management Hal Quinn and Bobby Howard of Kenansville have purchased B. & M. Esso Station in Kenans ville and will take over operation on Monday, February 23. Under the program, he will have a constant ana ouisianuing mai"--v for all eggs produced in the area under the Fair-Acre Certified Egs Program. Simmons said, "I have been con sidering such a program for a long time. After due consideration ana evaluation of all the programs, I have decided that the Fair-Acre Certified Egg Program Is the best and will put more dollars in the farmers' pockets. "My head is a little cloudy because I have not been moving around, but as soon as I get hold of some clothes, I am going to start walking a round. Don Tucker, announcer on WLSE Radio Station in Wallace, com pleted his 227 hour "Wake - A - Thon" on Wednesday night. He broke the world's record for sleep lessness which is 226 hours. Tuc ker is 21 years of age, weighed 240 pounds and is more than six feet tall. He is married to Mollie Tucker and they have a daughter Cheyenne one year old. He has been working with WLSE radio station since January 1. He did not take anything to keep himself awake, did not drink coffee, and ate regularly until along the end of his "Wake-A-Thon" when he only drank four gallons of orange juice each day and ate light salads. On being asked how they were positive that he stayed awake. WLSE replied that they were on the air 24 hours a day and some one was him all of the time to help run the record show. Tucker was admitted to Dup lin General Hospital on Wednes day evening around 9:00 and ac cording to Hospital Administrator L. U. Chandler, "Tucker was all tuckered out." His stay in Duplin General Hospital for three days is underwritten by six Wallace Merchants. Before going to press the Times talked with an attending physi cian and he stated that : Tucker was d ing fine. He had had a lit tle better than 15 hours of sleep.
