Our Trip To ; Cape Canaveral : Tuscarora Council ' ;, - v-- First Rejlon Si . Explorer Rendevous Cape Canaveral. Florida . On Saturday morning June ni nth a party of eight explorers and one adult leader from the Tusca rora ' Council left the Goldsboro Community Building for Patrick Air Force Base., the missle test center at Cape Canaveral, Florida. r-.The 'group traveled all day and stopped that night at the Stardust Motel in Woodbine, .Georgia, some sixty miles from the Florida state line On Sunday June tenth the group again set out for Patrick, planning to be checked in no la ter than four o'clock that after noon. On the way down the group stopped at St. Augustine to visit the old' Spanish Fort, Castillo De San Marco, a truly, fascinating place, however we had to pass by several other interesting land marks being a little short of time. We arrived at Patrick at approxi mately three-thirty, and were as' signed to our guarters. Later the same afternoon we were taken out to the V. S. S. Observation Island, a 'ship in Canaveral Harbor, where we spent most nt the- day on a tour of various sections of the ship and learning a few facts about., the i, equipment aboard which turned out,to be ouite edu cational. , v fir 1-IHAT'! SUBSCRIPTION bounties;' 14.50 plui 17e N. C. s lit (the days that came we had various schedules which toWol low. We did such things as plant ing trees, cleaning off the grounds, having lectures and films on se veral missile shots, doing physi cal training, having survival tra inings flying over the Canaveral launching area itself, and seeing two rnissle shots. Our particular group could not go on the schedu led flight due to weather condi tions but another flight was set up for the morning of departure, it "was a real thrill to see an ariel view of the Cape. ;tJpon returning from our flight we boarded our estate wagon for our long journey home. On the way' we stpped at Silver Springs a remarkably beautiful place where we spent much of the af ternoon on a tour of the many ex citing places there. We also went swimming in the crystal clear waters, which was a real treat. We arrived safely home the fol lowing evening. We wish to thank the Girl Scouts of Goldsboro for the use of their estate wagon, our parents and our adult leader from the Council who have all helped to make this trip possible. Among those who attended this event were: The representatives from Magnolia. Mr. John Smith, (our iadult leader). Bobby Smith, Harry Pope, Frank Thomas, Bill Smith, (Magnolia Sea Explorers).
