Conference To Be Held Wallace-Rose Hill High School October 4 Mrs. Grover Seaton, District Dir ector for the North Carolina Con gress of Parents and Teacher, has announced plans : for the t annual District Conference, a conference for all PTA members in District 8. District 8 is comprised of the fol lowing counties: Bladen, Bruns wick, Columbus, Cumberland Dup lin,. New Hanover, Pender, Rober son, and Sampson. A stray dog has taken a fancy to me, nnd enenthough he is the most pitiful looking stray one usually sees, his devotion is touching. He sleeps under my car ah -of-'the time and everytime I get in the car to drive anywhere, be jumps up and down, and barks with such a loud, bark that everyone looks out of their office door or widow to see what is happening. He growls at anyone passing, and attacks the cars that get in my way wheif I have to stop at an intersection. Mrs. Loyce Craft, chairman of calendar sales says, "between now and October 4th, we hope to contact every fa mily in the East Duplin School District." Every person in our district may have his or her name prin ted on the calendar. Your name will be printed on the date of your birthday. Wedding anniver saries will be listed on the date of their anniversary with a lit tle bell symbol after their name. The meetings and social func tions of local organizations will be printed on the dates they will be held. Advertisements of local business firms will be on the Ca lendar. Many firms will offer gifts and discounts to people whose names appear on the calendar. "Every family in the school district should have one of these novel calendars," states the chair man of the drive. Monday night, October 1, has been designated "Community Ca lendar night. Also plans were made as to the route of the Sewer j Lines. i Back taxes were discsused and a motion was made and passed t ditches cleaned out in the town. H. collect back taxes. Powell fund Allocations RALEIGH - The allocation of $7. 629,882.79 in Powell Bill funds to 413 participating municipalities was a nnounced today by the State High way Commission. The funds are distributed annually to - qualified cities and towns for use in non-highway system street work within their corporate limits. Checks to the in dividual municipalities will be mail ed from Raleigh the latter part of this month in order that they will reach municipalities by October 1. Powell Bill allocations are based on a formula using the population and street milage in the municipal ities and the total allocation this year represents an increase over lflfil of $273,746.82. In the twelve years of Powell Bill allocations, a total of $73,786,943.84 has been distributed, and the group of participating municipalities has grown from 386 to 413 with five ad ditional municipalites still under consideration.
