Habitat volunteers
Habitat For Humanity is seeking vol
unteers to help build decent and afford
able homes in Thomasville. The work
site is located at 814 Barnwell St. Work
begins at 8 a.m. each Saturday and ends
at noon. This Saturday’s work will in
clude flooring. No construction experi
ence is necessary Volunteers must be at
least 16 years of age.

Loose leaf collection to cease
The City of Thomasville will end
Loose Leaf Collection on Friday, Feb.
12.
Please rake all leaves to the curb free
of any debris (i.e. rocks, trash, limbs). If
leaves are mixed with any debris, they
will not be collected. Pursuant to solid
waste code; section 66-4; leaves should
be kept out of the street so as not to im
pede traffic flow.
Blood pressure checks
The Davidson County Department of
Senior Services Senior Dynamics pro
gram offers free bi-monthly blood pres
sure checks. Visit the Lexington Senior
Center at 106 Alma Owens Drive the 2nd
Tuesday of each month from 1 to 3 p.m.
and the last Friday of each month from
1 to 3 p.m. to have your blood pressure
checked. The blood pressure checks
are being provided by CareSouth Home
Care Professionals and Piedmont Home

tion of officers on Thursday, Jan. 28,

tion of new members to the Board of
Directors to replace members whose
terms wiU expire; discussion on chang
es to the personnel handbook and vot
ing on possible changes in the by-laws;
the election of Fire Department Line
Officers; the Fire Chiefs report and oth
er annual reports.

• Standard first aid with Adult and
Child CPR/AED, plus infant CPR, 8:30

As part of a monthly educational se
ries, “Medical Matters,” the Fitness
Center at High Point Regional Health
System wiU discuss “My Heart - The
Engine of Life” on Friday, Feb. 12 at
noon.
Participants wiU learn how the
heart works and why it is important to
keep it healthy. This free clinic wfil also
discuss the mechanics of the little en
gine that keeps you running.

Gumtree spaghetti dinner
Gumtree Fire and Rescue Auxiliary
wfil sponsor a spaghetti dinner fund
raiser on Saturday, Feb. 13 from 4 to 7
p.m.
The meal includes all you eat of salad,
spaghetti, bread, dessert, tea or coffee.
Adult dinners are $$7, senior citizens
(65 and older) are $6, children 12 and
under is $4, and all take out orders are
$7. Hot dogs wfil be offered for $1. Extra
salad, desert or bread are $1 each.

items needed by the firefighters and res
cue squad as they serve the community

Thomasville’s Outstanding Little
Miss Pageant is a fundraiser for the
Miss Thomasvfile Scholarship Associa
tion; the winners wfil have the opportu
nity to compete at the North Carolina’s
Outstanding Little Miss Pageant to
be held in July 2010. The competition
is open to girls between the ages of 12
months to 13 years of age. The Miss
Thomasvfile Scholarship Pageant is an
official preliminary of the Miss Amer
ica Program; the winner wifi compete
at the Miss North Carolina Scholarship
Pageant held in Raleigh on June 22-26,
2010. The competition is open to young
women who either reside, attend school,
or are employed full time in Davidson,
Randolph, Gufiford, Alamance, Davie,
or Montgomery Counties. Contestants
must be between 17 and 23 years of age.
Each contestant wifi compete in five
phases of competition; Interview, On
stage Question, Lifestyle and Fitness in
Swimsuit, Talent, and Evening Wear.
Thomasville’s Outstanding Teen
Pageant is an official preliminary of
the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen
Program; the winner wifi compete at
the North Carolina’s Outstanding Teen
Pageant held in Raleigh, North Caroli
na on June 22-25, 2010. The competition
is open to young women who reside in
the state of North Carolina. Contes
tants must be between the ages of 13 to
17 years old.
