Cunningham, a Lexing

to endorse Marshall af

a strong and united front
for the Democratic ticket
going into the General
Election.
“I commend her for
running an extremely
impressive campaign,
one that has shown tenac
ity and grit,” the David
son County native said.
“She has overcome some
tremendous odds to show
North Carolinians the
type of character that we
would expect of our next
U.S. Senator.”
Cunningham called
on Democrats to come
together to focus on the
party’s true opponent
— Sen. Burr.
“Any differences she
and I might have had in
this campaign pale in
comparison to our' dif
ferences with Richard
Bxirr,” Cvmningham said.
Burr himself extended
his congratulations to
Marshall and acknowl
edged the differences be
tween him and the Demo
cratic candidate.
“The Democrat’s pri
mary has shown that
North Carolina voters

in November between
two vastly different di

After a hard-fought campaign, Davidson County native
Cat Cunningham conceded to opponent Elaine Marshall,
* who won the Democratic primary runoff election for U.S.-
Senate with 60 percent of the votes.
After endorsing his former opponent, Cunningham
turned to thank his supporters for their help in the long
journey.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you for all the incredible
work we've done together," he said. "Thank you to the
voters of North Carolina. Thank you for the opportunity
to come in front of you, to offer up this choice.”
A family man to the end, Cunningham also acknowl
edged the sacrifices — and the' support — of his, wife
and children. The Lexington family has traveled together
throughout the state during the campaign.
"This has been a family endeavor, this has been some
thing we've done together," Cunningham said. "From
my family to yours, thank you, thank you, thank you."

With one victory be

her focus to the bigger

setting her sights on a

it defines who we are,”

Since its inception.
Arts United from David
son County has been a
key to promoting art
ists in the area. Funded
through donations, the
organization depends on
the community to con
tinue its programs. The
national recession and a
sluggish local economy
has brought trying times
for Arts United, forcing
numerous cutbacks, as
well as a move from its
former location.
“So many businesses
have gone from Davidson
County, and with the econ
omy the way it is, we’ve
lost a lot of our funding,”
Brown said. “We’re hope
ful that thp economy will
turp around. We’re doing
our best to operate on the
budget we have.”
