Senior Center cookbooks Davidson County Department of Se nior Services has collected recipes from seniors and the community and com piled them into an attractive cookbook, “Tasty Traditions II.” The cookbook contains 546 delicious recipes including main dishes, appetiz ers, desserts and many others. Each rec ipe will feature the contributor’s name so everyone can easily locate the favor ite recipes of their family and friends. Books are $10 each. Holiday garbage schedule The City of Thomasville will be closed on Monday, Sept. 6, in observance of La bor Day. The schedule will be as follows for the week of Sept. 6 - Sept. 10; Monday’s garbage route wiU collect on Tuesday. Tuesday’s garbage route wUl collect on Wednesday. Wednesday and Thursday wUl coUect on Thursday Friday win be regular schedule. The Piedmont Wind Symphony The Piedmont Wind Symphony, under the directioh’bf Robert Simon, opens its 21st season with its annual Labor Day concert at the Children’s Museum of Winston-Salem, 390 S. Liberty Street in Winston-Salem, Monday, Sept. 6, at 6;00 p.m. Admission is free. .This year’s concert, called “Music To Eat Popcorn By,” features music from films. Directed by Robert Simon and Jeff Whitsett, concert highlights include medleys such as “ChUlers & ThrUlers,” “Disney at the Oscars,” “Grease,” “James Bond Suite,” John WUliams’ “Fantasy of Flight,” “Mis sion Impossible,” “Pink Panther,” Theme from “Shaft” and many others. Relay For Life volunteers needed The American Cancer Society and it’s Davidson County committee members are currently seeking volunteers in the surrounding areas to assist with the 2011 event. The committee is respon sible for organizing the event, recruit ing fundraising teams, garnering com munity support, coordinating logistics, planning entertainment and seeking donations to ensure the continued suc cess of Relay For Life. The first volun teer committee meeting wiU be held on Tuesday, Sept. 7 in Lexington. This meeting will begin the planning process for Relay, which supports the American Cancer Society’s mission of saving lives by helping people stay weU, by helping people get well, by finding cures and by fighting back against the disease. TMC golf tournament ThomasvUle Medical Center Founda tion to host 16th annual golf tourna ment on Wednesday, Sept. 15. The event wiU take place at The Hale Irwin Signature Course at Meadow- lands Golf Club in WaUburg. The tournament is a four-person cap tain’s choice tournament. There is an $85 entry fee for each golfer. There are two shotgun starts at 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Lrmch wUl take place between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. whUe snacks and bev erages wUl be provided throughout the day Participants wUl also receive a goody bag. The spokesman pointed out that 75 Afri can American high school students in rural Davidson County transported to Dunbar High School in Lexington and Church Street High School in Thom asville.
