According to a Davidson County ■ Sheriff’s Office press release, Mat thew Tyler Rowland, of 967 Gray Road Lot 8 in Lexington, and Dan iel Aden English, of 174 Lee Smith Road in Lexington, were arrested and charged with more than a dozen counts each following an in vestigation by the DCSO Breaking and Entering Task Force. Rowland is charged with six counts of larceny, four counts of injury to personal property, four counts of obtaining property by false pretenses, three counts of first degree trespassing and two counts of breaking and entering. English is facing seven counts of larceny, four counts of obtaining property by false pretenses, three counts of injury to personal prop erty, three counts of breaking and enterihg and three counts of first degree trespassing. “They were involved in small lar cenies involving metal and batter ies from cars and tractors,” Sheriff David Grice said. “WhUe the larce nies were small, they involved a lot of victims. Detectiyes worked with local recyclers for a few weeks get ting Information.” DCSO deputies began investi gating cases of breaking and en tering, larceny and property dam age on Nov. 16 at several locations in Thomasville, Lexington and Southmont. Deputies developed leads at MJ’s Core & Scrap Metal Recycling, where some of the sto len items were located, and ob tained statements which led to the charges on the two suspects. “The items stolen led us to be lieve it was all related,” said Grice. “When detectives got to interview ing the guys, they were very forth coming.” Rowland and English were is sued $30,000 and $75,000 bonds, respectively, and are scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 12. RAID From page' “Our undercovers were in there buying drugs from patrons, employees, bartenders and security guys,” said Smith. “We had active warrants on around 18 people prior to the search warrant. We recovered a smaR amount of cocaine that was dropped on the floor. We picked up everyone we had warrants on. When people over there got comfortable with our undercover guys, they were buying from all sorts of people. Such public ap pearances might be hard for him, not only because he works full-time during the day but also because it’s a role he’s not accus tomed to filling. “That-is a big part of this job, representing the county in the public eye,” Watford said. “Run ning the meetings is the easy part. I’ve done that before. Representing the county in the public eye, that’s the hard part.” Yates, who has attended board meetings as an au dience member since his election Nov. 2, seemed excited and a bit nervous to take his official seat at the front of the room. But he says he’s eager to get his feet wet. “It feels good,” Yates said. “We’re working in the right direction.' I’m looking forward to work ing with these guys, and I think we’ve got a lot of good things coming out soon.” Also at the meeting, commissioners recog nized county staff who have served for five years or more. Mary Ann Brown, head of the Recreation Department and also involved in Spe cial Olympics of David son County, received an award for her 35 years of service, the longest pe riod of any current em ployee. “Thank you aU for your service,” Watford told the employees after aU had been recognized. “I know it’s been rough on everybody the past year.
