Senior Center cookbook “Tasty Tradi

The Davidson County Department of
Senior Services collected recipes from
seniors and the community and com
piled them into an attractive cookbook,
which contains 546 delicious recipes
Including main dishes, appetizers, des
serts and many others.
Each recipe will feature the contrib
utor’s name so everyone can easily lo
cate the favorite recipes of their family
and friends. The books are $10 each.
Both cash and checks are accepted. For
cash purchases, please have the correct
change. Proceeds wUl benefit the David
son County Senior Centers of Lexing
ton and ThomasvUle.

Motivated Movers, a team participat
ing in the 2011 Relay For Life of David

The Fair Grove Lions Club wUl hold
their monthly fundraiser bingo event
from 6;30 to 9 p.m. today at the club

Luminary service
HoUy HiU Memorial Park wUl hold a
2010 Holiday Candlelight Luminary on
Saturday, Dec. 11, with a rain date on
Sunday Dec. 12. Lighting begins at 4 p.m.
The service is dedicated to the memory
of loved ones who have preceded us. For
a donation, a luminary wUl be placed
at the grave or entombment site of the
loved one. Those wishing to purchase
luminaries in the memory of someone
not at HoUy HUl can have the luminary
with that person’s name placed near the
entrance of the park. Maximum of five
luminaries per individual memorial.

Foreclosure clinic

prevention counselors to The Lexing
ton Homeo-wnership Center (LHC), a
program of the Lexington Housing
Community Development Corporation,
for a foreclosure clinic Saturday Dec.
11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lexing
ton Homeownership Center, 29 E. First
St., in Lexington. The North Carolina
Home Protection Program and Loan
Fund (HPP) provides temporary finan
cial assistance to workers who have lost
their job due to changing economic con
ditions and are facing possible foreclo
sure.
Coimselors wUl assist with gain
ing access to funding for homeo-wners.
These services are provided by the Lex--
Ington Homeo-wnership Center (LHC)
in partnership with Consiuner Credit
Counseling of Greensboro, Davidson
Community Action and the North Caro
lina Housing Finance Agency. Foreclo
sure prevention counseling is currently
avaUable at the LHC but wUl expand to
gain unemployed homeowners assis
tance imder the newest guidelines. Ho
meowners can gain assistance if they
are behind on their mortgage or afraid
of faUing behind by caUing toU free 1-
888-755-2227. Counselors can determine
if homeowners qualify for the Home
Protection Program to help those strug
gling to make their mortgage payments
due to job loss or unforeseen financial
difficulties.
Book club
Davidson County Department of Se
nior Services Senior Dynamics pro
gram holds a free monthly book club
program for folks who love to read and
get together to discuss their thoughts
and interpretations. This month’s meet
ing is Dec. 16 and wUl meet each third
Thursday of the month thereafter from
2 until 4 p.m. The club wiU meet at the
Lexington Senior Center.
The December selection is The Al
chemist by Paulo CoeUio. Participants
must secure their qwn book copy at the
library or other location. Copies are
available at the Lexington Main library
location.

vUle Medical Center Cardiology Depart
ment for a program on heart disease
held at the ThomasviUe Senior Center,
located at 211 W Colonial Drive, Dec. 14
at 10 a.m. in suite 107. Pre-registration
is required by Dec. 13.
ThomasvUle Medical Center wants
you to know your numbers. This pro
gram wUl discuss issues including high
blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes,
exercise, smoking and obesity.
