Miss Marion Hicks spent Sun day with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Hicks. Miss Hicks re turned to Watts hospital to con tinue her studies, where she is in training for a nurse.' Mrs. Lonnie Faucette was car ried to Watts hospital Tuesday af ternoon. Hines Harris returned to work at J. L. Brown and Son this week after a lengthy. illness during which he underwent an operation in a Durham hospital. Ralph I. Thomas entered Watts hospital Monday. He expects to undergo an appendectomy in the next day or two. Mrs. Joe Dickey of West Hills b«*fro is spending the week with her daughter, Mrs. Birtie Moore of Haw River. Mrs. Bill White and two sons left last week for a visit with Mrs. White’s parents, Mr. and Mrs: Powell of Orlando, Fla. Tapp entertained at a miscellaneous shower for her daughter, Mrs. Jerry DePriest, at home Saturday night, February 3. Guests were invited to arrive at 8 o’clock. During the evening many games were enjoyed. The honoree opened her many lovely gifts and distributed them for all to view. W. Strayhorn.— —:__—__ Assisting in entertaing the young guests were the host’s sisters-in law, Mrs. HVjH. Strayhorn and Mrs. S. H. Strayhorn. Games were en joyed during the early afternoon. Guests were then invited into the dining room where ice cream and cake were served. A pink and white birthday cake topped by one burning candle was placed in the center of the dining room table. NEVIUS ENGAGED Zeb V. Council of Chapel Hill has announced the engagement of his daughter, Mabel Dare, to Lt. Charles Wesley Nevius, son of Mrs. W. H. Nevius and the late Mrs. Nevfus of Harrisburg, Pa. The wedding date will be' announced later. Mi,ss Council is a niece Of Mrs. J. L. Gates of Durham, with whom she has made her horfte. On Thursday of last week Miss Council, was honored at a lunch eon given by members of the ac counting department at the Duke Power Company in Durham. Crabtree, Sic, was honored at a farewell dinner Sun day given by his mother, Mrs. Hattie Crabtree. Those present for the dinner were Mr. and Mrs. George Squiroo, Mr. and Mrs. Her bert Tucker and children, Nancy, Jeari, Edward, and Leonard Tuck er; Vivian Squires, Mrs. Edgar Riley and daughter, Patsy Marie, and Foy Crabtree. Seaman Crab tree spent 26 days with his mother after serving several mpnths over seas. He will return to Norfolk to continue his training. J. S. Cook in Cedar Grove. Strum, son of Mr. and Mrs.’ D. E. Strum of Hillsboro, has- been m the Navy for the past two years, He is now stationed in Washing ton, D. C. Mrs. Strum is employed at Liggett and Myers Tobacco Company in Durham. Strum re turned to Washington February 3.
