Mrs. Jack Williams 'af Durham is spending several days here with her sister-in-law, Mrs. E . G Broadwell. Seaman First Class Thomas Du la and Mrs. Dula spent Thursday in Raleigh visiting personnel oi the Dillon Supply Company, where Dula was employed as bookkeep ing machine operator prior to his enlistment in the U. S. Naval re serve. They were visiting Mr. and Mrs. L. B. DuIS at Wilkesborc last week. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Woods and son, Roy, of Newport News, Va., are visiting Hugh’s parents, Mr and Mrs. Sam Woods. ~ MRS. KENNEM’GIVEN SURPRISE DINNER ' "‘TJhe family of Mrs. G. L. Kennedy- gave her a surprise birthday dinner on Sunday, July 8, at her home. Those enjoying the dinner were Mr. I. R. (Bud) Long, I. D. and J. C. Long. Mrs. Lacy Saterfield and family, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Pope and Peggy, Mrs. Melvin Ward, Mr. and Mrs. Giles Long and Ann, Mrs. Hubert Wright, Mr. and Mrs. Coy Long and family and Miss Marie Ken nedy. Everyone had a good time and wished for her many more happy birthdays. _:_ RUMMY PARTY Misses Helen Caston and An nie Pope were co-hostesses at a rummy party held at the home of Miss Caston Thursday night "of last yeek. Four tables were set for rummy yvith five players at each. Miss Grace Bivins won prize for low score and Miss Margaret Monk took the high score prize. After three successive games, the guests were invited into the dining room for refreshments con sisting of dainty cakes, sandwiches of all designs and fruit punch. " ' 1 1 Evans'Poole Vows Spoken At Carrborfc Carr boro—Miss Fleta Mae Ev ans, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. R,,. Evans, became the bride of Sgt. Allen B. Poole, U. S. Army, Friday, July 6, at the Carrboro Methodist church. The Rev. V. E. Queen, pastor of the bride and the Rev. W. H. Poole, uncle of the bridegroom, heard the vows spo ken. Wedding music was furnished by Miis Elizabeth Womble and A. O. Barbee, soloist of Durham, sang “O Perfect Love”, “Because” and “The Lord’s Prayer”. Bridesmaids were Miss Barbara Ann Poole, Miss Evelyn Pickett, Miss Hilda Cheek and Mrs. J. Hughes Fagge. Two of them wore gowns oT pink marquisette and two wore gowns of blue, each car rying a nosegay of summer flow ers. , Mrs. Tommy Evans, matron of honor and sister-in-law of the bride, wore a gown of white mar quisette and .carriedf- a nosegay of summer flowers. Little Billy Poole was ring bearer. Ushers were J. M. Foushee of Chapel Hill, D. M. Ray of. Carr boro, J. B. Sherman and Floyd Rhodes of Durham. . Given in marriage by her fath er, John Robert Evans, the bride wore a. wedding gown of white slipper satin, colonial fashion, with net yoke, long sleeves, and court train. Her fingertip veil fell from a Mary Stuart cap with orange blossoms. She carried a white prayerbook covered with white orchids. A locket, worn by the bride’s mother when she was mar ried, was hei- only ornament. The bride was met at the altar by the bridegroom, attended by his best man, his brother,.H. H. Poole Jr., U. S. Navy. After a short wedding trip the couple will be at home with the bride’s parfentS until July 30, at which time Sergeant Poole will report to Fort Bragg for reassign ment. Sgt. Poole is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Poole of Knichtdale. CARRBORO GIRL WED AT SPRINGFIELD Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Squires of Carrboro announce the marriage of their daughter, Frances, to John A. Bobba of Springfield, Mass,, on Friday morning, June 8, m^Sprln^field. Mr. Bobba is the son of Anthony Bobba of Spring field and has recently been * dis charged from the Army Air Corps. Adar church, announced at the regular service Sunday morning that he was resigning his pastorate in order to enter the Baptist Theological Saminary in Louisville, Ky., the first of Sep tember. Rev. GREEN HONORED Mrs. Hattie Lynch gave a sur prise shower honoring Mrs. Lee Green of Elon, Tuesday night, I July 10. Many attractive gifts were received by the honoree. Burton Warren is spend ing a thirty-day furlough with his mother, Mrs. Sudie Warren. F. O. Warren has been in Europe since April. Stewart-' Robinson—received a medical discharge from the army and is at home. Stewart has re ceived a long list of awards and medals. Bernice Wilson, S 2-c, Norfolk, Va., is home on a thirteen-day furlough, after which he expects to go to the Philippines. Harold Compton is in the hos pital in southern France suffering withlseigcofTbOlts. Charlie Henry Allen is spend ing his furlough at home With his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Allen. Miss Mary Susan Robertson en tertained at her home Tuesday evening with six tables of bridge. Miss Cates’ place was marked by a corsage and miniature bride and groom. High score award was won by Mrs. B. P. Gordon, Jr. And low score award went to Miss Winnie Williams. Iced punch was served during the game. A messenger boy arrived with a package for Miss Cates. _ When opened, the package contained most of the pieces in the hon oree’s china pattern. >• _____ Fancy bridal ices, individual cakes, and nuts were served the twenty-four guests present. Mrs. Dorothy Arms and her mother, Mrs. T. H. Antrim enter tained at a luncheon, Saturday July 7, in honor of Miss Cates, a1 which time she received several pieces of her crystal. Mrs. Hubert Turner and Mrs. Al len Walker entertained at a bridge party in honor of Miss Cates. The bride-elect’s place was marked by a corsage of white rosebuds Mrs. F. S. SCARLETT HAS junior c: A/S The Junior Girl’s Auxiliary of the West Hill Baptist church met at the home of Mrs. R. E. Scar lett, with Miss Jeanette Roberts, program chairman, being in charge of .the program. The main topic was “A Good Citizen . After the program, Bible ques tions were asked by the coun selor, Mrs. Scarlett. Jeanette Rob erts and Mary Lou Lane answer ed the most questions correctly, and won the prizes. _ Afterwards, refreshments were served to Jeanette Roberts, Jean ette Vick, Fay Marine, Jackie Burton, Dixie Lee King, Peggy Albright, and Mary Lou Lane, by Mrs. Scarlett.
