Debaters representing Carolina and George Washington Universi ty met in a no-decision debate Tuesday on the query Resolved, that the nations agree to prevent the international shipment of arms and munitions. R. P. Russell, of Asheville and Winthrop Durfee of Boston, Mass, university repre sentatives upheld the negative. ONE YEAR AGO THfS MONTH The county commissioners fav ored plans for 'beginning' con struction of a' high school build ing in Chapel Hill. Only one wing if the building will be built at this time, containing about twelve classrooms. William Chance was eliminated 4 to 1 when those present at the town mass meeting Monday night nominated Ben G. Johnston as candidate for mayor of Hillsboro by a total vote of 24 to 6. Johnston is the only candidate for the meet ing and is running to succeed him self to the office he has held for the past 12 years. A chapter of Americans United for World Organization was form- • ed by P. C. Farrar in Chapel Hill this week. Mrs. Allen Whitaker, chairman of the war fund drive for the Or ange County Red Cross chapter, revealed this week that the quota of $4,000 has been over-subscrib ed by $1,252.49. , , New Hope—Mr. and Mrs Elmer Johnson, Mrs. O’Neil Sharpe and 'Thomas Powell spent Easter with Mr, and.
