Howard, Whh recently received his discharge from the Army, has enrolled as a student at Croft’s Business School in Durham. Mrs. W. H. Overacre of Pitts boro has been spending several days here with relatives. Mrs. Joe Abril and young daugh ter, Bemeta, have been visiting Mr. Abril in New York. Miss Joyce Ann Oakley has re turned home after a visit of sev eral days with her sister, Mrs?* Howard Hobby, and family in Burlington. Mr. and Mrs. James B. Cave of Virginia Beach have been spend ing several days with Mrs. Cave’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. D. Pridgen. The two families spent the last weekend in Beaufort. Buddie Hardee spent last week visiting Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Hardee and Johnny in Durham. J. P. Ellington, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jeter Ellington, has received his discharge from the Navy after two years service, most of which was spent overseas in the South Pacific. ~ Mrs. Harry Dennis Andrews is much improved in Watts hospital in Durham. She underwent an op eration last Friday for appendi citis. Mrs. John Rogers and son, ClarK, are spending this week in Mebane with relatives. John Hines has received his dis charge from the !Army and is at home with his wife and two chil dren. He has just returned from duty in the Pacific area. Music by the Mills Home Band was enjoyed last Sunday at the Baptist Church here. Twenty three members of the band were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Lord from Thomasville. Mrs. W. M. Lackey spent the last weekend in Raleigh with Mrs. RL D. Strickland. Charles Hogan is visiting his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. John Norwood, near Pittsboro. Mr.- and . Mrs. Eugene Petty. Misses Frances and Fannie Sykes, Miss Bette Cannady, Eugene Clark and Claude Dayberry spent the last weekend at White Lake. Miss Amy Riggsbee has accepted a position with the Hill Bakery in Chapel Hill. Miss Frances Hearn of Bynum is now with the Hospital Saving Association in Chapel Hill and is living in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Riggs bee on Pleasant drive. Miss Kathleen Hardee has taken a position with the Farmers Dairy Cooperative in Chapel Hill. The new ice cream parlor op erated by Ralph Smith, Jr., has chosen the name “Dairyland Ice Cream Parlor.” Miss Barbara Ann Poole of Knightdale spent last week here with her brother, Mac Pool, Mrs. Poole and other relatives. Wayne Williams has returned from a visit to Morehead . City. Wayne received his diploma last week from UNC. J. C. Hearn Conference Delegate Carrboro.—James Clark Hearn was elected last Sunday morning by the Young Men’s class of the i Carrboro Methodist Sunday school and the official board of .the church to be a delegate to the Bishop’s Conference with Returned Vet erans, to be held in Columbus, Ohio, July 4-7. The Carrboro Methodist Church was notified a few days ago that it had been designated by Bishop W. W. Peele of this area to send a delegate. Only 1,000 of the 42, 000 Methodist churches in the country are being given this privi lege. Mr. Hearn is 24 years old and was discharged from the Army about six months ago after serv ing for three years in Army air forces as sergeant in the American theater. At present Mr. Hearn is a stew ard in the Carrboro Methodist Church. He is a partner with his father, L. D. Hearn, in the mer cantile business in Carrboro. Others enjoying camp at the lake were Troop 38 of Hillsboro, Troop 39 of Chapel Hill. At this time Russel Perry and Billy Watts made first class in scouting. Civic rib bons were awarded for 25 hours of service to Joe 'Hoenig, Billy Watts, Ivalee Hill, James Smith, Jimmy Neville, Freddie Baxter and Wayne Ellington. A ribbon for 50 hours work to Lee West.
