Garrboro Mrs. M. E. Lanning and Miss Jane Lanning, who returned last Saturday from New York and New Jersey, left last Sunday for a two weeks stay in Providence, Va., where Mr. Lanning is employed for the summer. F. A. Smith of the Navy left for Norfolk last Monday after a leave here with his father. Mrs. Mamie Beck and Mrs. E. R Mann will leave tomorrow (Fri day) for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Kessing in Washington, D. C. Mrs. Mann will return home Mon day. Mrs. Beck will stay six weeks. Mrs. Aaron Barefoot and daugh ter, Margaret Frances, of near Clinton, spent last week here with relatives. Misses Thelma Johnson and Fau cette Williams have been spending several days at White Lake. John Brinegar of the Baptist Orphanage at Thomasville and Mars Hill College, has been visit ing Thomas Bland. Brinegar will enter UNC this autumn. Misses Betty Collins .and Pansj Jean Clark are spending this w%ek in Rockingham. _Mrs. Bumice Matthews and Mrs Charlie Byrd and children of Tur key visited Mrs. Joe Sparrow anc other relatives here last week Mrs. Sparrow drove down to Tur key on Saturday to take then home. Is Seeking Postmaster A Civil Service examination has been announced for filling the va cancy of postmaster at Carrboro. To be eligible, an applicant must have resided within the town for at least one year prior to the date set for close of receipt of appli cation, August 28. Age limits are .21 to 63 years, exceptin the case of veterans. The forms necessary to be filed are Application Form 10, Physical Fitness Form 13, and Instruction Form 2223. Veterans will need, in addition, Forms 14 and 4719. These forms may be obtained from the post offtce at Carrboro, or from the United States Civil Service Com mission, Washington 25, t). C. Any one interested should execute these forms properly and mail them to the9' Commission at Washington, D. C., not later than August 28. GIRLS AUXILIARY Carrboro.—The Girls Auxiliary of the* Baptist Church went oh‘ an outing and picnic yesterday at Pullen’s Park in Raleigh. Trans portation for the young ladies wa§ furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Mac Williams, who accompanied them on the picnic. returned from a vacation trip to Washington, D. C., and into the mountains of Virginia and North Carolina. Mr. and Mrs. Mac Poole are spending their vacation at Vir ginia “Beach. They are guests of Mr. and Mrs. James Cave, Jr., of Virginia Beach. Mrs. Cave is the former Miss Laura Duncan Pridgen of Carrboro. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Wright and Son, Jimmie, are on a vacation trip visiting relatives in New Hamp shire and Vermont. They expect to return to their home here about September 1. Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Braxton en joyed a vacation trip last week to Pilot Mountain, Grand Caverns, and Natural Bridge. They traveled through Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and came back by Wash ington, D. C. They were accom panied on the trip by Mrs. G. N. Guthrie of Snow Camp and L. R. Thomas of Chapel Hill.
