Carrboro By Mn. Ira Mann Mrs. H. C. Champion and sons, Henry and Bobby, of Kannapolis left Wednesday after a visit here with relatives. M. A. Simms is improving after weekly treatments at McPherson’s hospital, Durham. *'■ Mrs. Harriott Jarman has re '_turned to her home here after a visit to relatives and friends in Lewisville arid Winston-Salem. Her cousin, Calvin Butner, re turned home with her for a week’s visit. Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Bailey are spending a week’s vacation in Farmville and other sections in the eastern part of the state. Mr. and Mrs. HarryTDaniels are visiting relatives near Myrtle Beach, S. C. The Rev. and Mrs. William i Meacham and daughter, Cheryl, of Stumpy Point, near Manteo, have been spending two weeks with the Rev. Mr, Meacham’s par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Mea cham. Charles . Campbell has been spending several days ih New York. Mrs. Clarence Farrell is much improved after being ill at her home here last week. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Sturdi vant and family have returned from a visit to Oriental. Mrs. T. N. Mann and Mrs. Mar vin Mann of near Pittsboro have returned from a visit to their brother, the Rev.^IL C.JPurham, and Mrs. Durham in Raleigh. * Mr. and Mrs. Mac Poole, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Evans and Mayor I. A. West visited in Fayetteville over the weekend. They visited the Rev. V. E. Queen, former pastor of the Carrboro Methodist church here, and Mrs. Queen. Carney Clark is' improving after being ill all last week at his home. Clark, who is a painter at the -University, suffered a strained muscle in his hip. vv . Mrs. ‘Gordon Simms is receiving treatment in Watts hospital. Dr. and Mrs. R. E. Clark of De Land, Fla., have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Otis Neville for the past few days. Dr. Clark, who is a teacher in Florida, has been spend ing some time this summer at his old home in Chatham county. Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Ivey and family visited in Raleigh and Bur lington last week while Mr. Ivey was on vacation. Miss Eleanor Craig spent last week at her home near New Hope. Mrs. Clarence Moore, Misses Sue Carol Moore, Trillis Hackney and George Womble have returned from a vacation trip to Atlantic City. They also visited Mrs. Moore’s sister, Mrs. Hardie Wil lis, at Morehead City. Mrs. H. W. Roberts and daugh Carrboro School Enrollment ffigher Carrboro.— Enrollment Mon day at Carrboro school totaled 281 students, an Increase of 10 over last year.__ During a special service at the school Monday, members of the Carrboro P.T.A. presented the school with a new stage curtain for the auditorium. ' At the opening session of the Carrboro school last Monday morning the audience and school children sang the national hymn, God of Our Fathers, as the open ing number. The Rev. William H. Poole used II Timothy 2:1-15 as a devotional. The Rev. J. L. Joyce spoke on the subject “Why I Should Do the Best I Can This Year.” Mrs. Toby Webb of the Orange county health department made a talk on health. A large number of parents and friends of the school attended the opening exercises. ATTEND REUNION OF WOMBLE BLAND FAMILY Carrboro.—The following per sons were among those from Carr boro attending the Womble Bland family reunion held last Sunday with Bessie Bland Hundley and Ethel Womble Sparrow near the Madison Womble home place three miles from Chapel Hill: Mr. and Wade Bland and family, Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Ivey and family, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Ray, Mrs. Lillie Ray, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Womble and family, Mrs. Lula Johnson, Mrs. Thelma Johnson and Howard Johnson. ter, Anna, are spending several days in Kannapolis. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Evans and son, Kent, and Mrs. Edward Mann returned last Sunday from a visit to their sister, Mrs. Tom Kes sing, and family in Washington, D. C. Mrs. Mamie Beck, who has been spending several weeks in Washington, returned home with them. Carrboro Teachers ~ Study School Health Methods - Carrboro. — The first teachers meeting of the faculty of the Carr boro school was held on Thursday afternoon of last week in the prin cipal’s office at the school with Mrs. L. R. Sturdivant, school prin cipal, presiding. All teachers for the year were present. Much work was accom plished and plans for the entire year were adopted, Including a meeting of teachers once each month to study better health meth ods for further improving the health of the school. Health nurses present at the meeting were Mrs. Rose, Mrs. Brocker and Mrs. Webb. Refreshments of ice cream and cake were served at the close of the meeting by Mrs. Sturdivant, assisted by Mrs. Frank Maddry and Mrs. Pauline Ferguson. RONNIE LACKEY CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY Carrboro. — Twenty-four young friends of Ronnie Lackey attended his birthday on Thursday of last week and showered him with gifts on his eighth birthday, Ronnie is the son of Mr, and Mrs. W. M. Lackey. A color scheme of pink and white was carried out in the table decorations. Ice cream and cake was served by Mrs. Lack ey, assisted by Mrs. Paul Sturdi vant.
