Thoaas Bland Is Ordained As Minister i Carrboro—Thomas Bland was ordained as a minister in a special service last Sunday m /ming at the Baptist church here. Rev. Bland is the oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Wade Bland and has lived in Carrboro all hi§ life. He attend ed the Carrboro school and the Chapel Hill high •> school and this is his senior year at the Universi ty of Nor^h Carolina. Recent visitors to Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Sturdivant were H. W. Far rell and sons Mack and Warren, of Pittsboro. Henry W. Roberts of Grand Rapids, Mich., is spending the holi days here with Mrs. Roberts and their daughter, Anna. He will re turn to Grand Rapids after the New Year. Mr. and Mrs. Phil Hardee of Hillsboro and Miss Kathleen Hard ee of Burlington have been visiting their parents, Mr and Mrs. I. F. Hardee. Bob Mhynard has been a patient in Watts hospital. He returned home last Saturday. Mrs. Sidney Barker is much im proved of a serious operation in Watts hospital. James Duncan of Washington, D. C., has been visiting friends here for several days and is the guest of his parents in the Orange church section of Orange county. Mr. and Mrst Charles E.. Smith have recently returned from, a bus iness trip to New York. Mr. and Mrs. K. B. Cole left last Sunday to drive to New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl game between Georgia and Carolina. V" Mr. and Mrs. Pridgen, who have been living in this community for years moved last week back to their old community near Beau fort. Barbara Hackney, young daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Bryant Hack ney, has b^en a patient in Watts hospital since Wednesday of last week, Mrs. A. L. Ferrell visited her brother-in-law, Excell Ferrell, who is very ill in Watts hospital, during the weekend. L. N. Graham left Monday to attend the Gater Bowl game New Years day in Jacksonville, Fla., between N. C. State of Raleigh and Oklahoma. _ < Miss LaVerne Riddle has re turned from a visit of several days with her grandmother, Mrs. A. .B Riddle in Durham. Mr. and Mrs. David Robin, have returned to their home in New York after a visit here with Mrs. Robin’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wade Thrift. Miss Linda Williams and Mrs. Ida Upchurch of Apex have been visiting Misses Minnie and Elva Williams and other relatives here. Marvin Ivey, Seaton Lloyd, Joe Parker, Bruce Ray and Mangum Upchurch are in New Orleans this week for the Sugar Bowl game be Carolina and ^Georgia. Miss Margaret Smith has re turned from a visit to relatives in Burlington and Shelby. Walter Clark, Sr., were fortunate on Christmas day to have all their 10 children with them for the first time in five years. They had six sons in service during the war. Those present from out of town Christmas day were Mr. and Mrs. William Clark and Michael of Dur ham, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Clark of Hillsboro, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Childress and their 3 sons, Norm an, Richard and Paul, Jr., and Eu gene Clark of Greensboro. Collins ot Hillsboro during the Christmas holidays. Mr. and Mrs. David McPherson and Arthur Nicholas spent their holidays visiting in the, State of New 'York. Mrs. C. M. Strayhorne spent the holidays visiting in New York, Montclair, N. J., and Washington, D. C. v. Rev. and Mrs. Gant of Roxboro visited in Hillsboro during the holidays. The youth club opened the Christmas social season, featuring John Holloway and his eight-pieqe orchestra at the community cen ter in Hillsboro. Many Hillsbori ans danced through the beautiful decorated scenes depicting the yule season. Miss Margaret Nicholas acted as hostess to her nieces and their friends on Sunday, December 29, at a buffet diner. The table center piece was beautiful snap dragons.
