her home.
The January meeting of the 4-H
club in the Carrboro school was
held on Wednesday morning of
last week in the school auditorium.
Three pictures on soil conservation
were enjoyed toy the boys and
girls.
Sandra Mann, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Edward Mann, was taken
to Watts hospital last Sunday for
an operation for appendicitis.
Sandra, who is in the 7th grade
at school, was taken seriously ill
last Saturday. An emergency op
eration was performed Sunday
night in Watts hospital, Durham.
Mrs. Roy Riggsbee has been at
tending the.bedside of her -sister,
Mrs. W. L. Smith, who has been
ill for several weeks at her home
near Bynum.
Mrs. M. E. Lanning has been
suffering with a serious eye infec
* tion for the past two weeks.
Visitors to Mrs. E. J. Roberson
last weekend were Edd Roberson
and family of South Boston, Va.
On last Sunday evening the Rev
William, H. Rittenhouse of Hills
boro was guest minister for the

Mr. Rittenhouse is the pastor of
Lystra and Bethol Baptist church
es and is a missionary-appointee
to Romania.
Mr., and Mrs. Cullen Riggsbee
and daughter, Judy Ann, of Bur
lington have been visiting Mr.
Riggsbee’s mother, Mrs. Jesse
Riggsbee.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Smith
and family moved to Woodruff,
S. C., last week. This was their
former home before they moved
here more than a year ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Olive re
turned last Saturday from several
weeks stay in Florida.
Mrs. Rosa Jones and her son of
near Siler City have been visit
ing Mr. and Mrs. L. I. Braxton.
Roscoe Neal has been confined
to Watts Hospital since last Satur
day. His condition is improving.
Mr. and Mrs. Ira Mann visited
Mr. Mann’s brother, E. W. Mann,
and his uncle, S. E. Woody, in Sax
apahaw last weekend.

and family have gone to Orlando,

Hawley'Ferrell Vows Are Spoken
At West Durham Baptist Church
Carr boro. — The West Durham
Baptist church was the scene last
Saturday evening, January 25, at
7 o’clock of a formal wedding when
Miss Marjorie Hawley, daughter
of Mrs. James Hawley of Peace
street, Durham, became the bride
of A. L. Ferrell, Jr., son of Mrs.
A. L. Ferrell of Carrboro.
The church was decorated with
white chrysanthemums, palms and
I ferns with softly glowing tapers
in seven-branched candelabra. A
program of wedding music was
given by Miss Mildred Thomas,
church organist, and Dorothy
Cheek, soloist.
The officiating minister was the
Rev. B. E. Morris, who used the
double-ring ceremony.
The bride, who wore white satin
bridal gown with fingertip veil,
carried a bridal bouquet centered
with an orchid. Her'maid of honor
was her niece, Miss Evelyn Blake,
who wore pale green taffeta.
Bridesmaids were Misses Marie
Dean and Gladys Cheek, who wore
rose taffeta dresses. Matron of
honor was Mrs. L. N. Graham, who
wore a dress of orchid taffeta. AIL
attendants carried bridal bouquets.
Best man for the groom was
L. N. Graham. Ushers were J. B
Dali, Tommy' MontjoJ, Winfred
Hawley and Norman Philips. Af
ter a wedding trip to unannounced
points the young couple will make
their home in Durham.

superintendent of the Durham dis
trict which includes the Carrboro
charge. The Carrboro charge is
made up of the Carrboro church,
Orange church and Merritt’s Chap
el church. The Rev. J. L. Joyce
is the minister in charge of these
churches.

Carrboro.—The regular monthly
meeting of the officers and teach
ers of the Carrboro Baptist Sunday
school was held on Monday eve
ning of this week in the church
basement. At least once each year
the men in the group prepare ano
serve the supper. On this occa
sion file men served a delicious
meal and were complimented on
their cooking ability by the as
sembled group.
Auxiliary Meets
The Woman’s Society held their
monthly meeting Tuesday evening
of last week at the home of Mrs.
H. C. Riggsbee.
