Harey came last Friday from St. Petersburg, Fla., to attend the funeral and burial of her brother-in-law, Dr. B. B. Lloyd. She left for her home in Florida on Tuesday of this week. Mrs. Nannie Thrift, who has been a resident of Carrboro for more than 30 years, remains quite ill at her home on Oak Avenue. Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Ivey apd family attended the funeral of Mr. Ivey’s cousin. Mrs. Dan Ivey, last Sunday in Burlington. Mrs. Martin Luther is out again after a severe attack of influenza. Out of town guests attending the Lamson-Lindsay w’edding last week included Mr. and Mrs. John I L. Lamson, and Arthur Lamson of Raleigh. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Riggsbee vis ited relatives in Burlington dur ing the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Clark and family were visitors in Greens boro last Saturday and Sunday. T. C. Lindsay of the Navy is here on leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cleveland Lindsay. . Kenneth Tripp, who enlisted in the army several weeks ago, was here on a weekend pass with his parents last Sat. He was accom panied by James G. Cline of Mar ion, Va. Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Ashworth were visitors last week to Mr. Ashworth’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Ashworth. Eza Home is improving in Watts Hospital after a serious operation op Tuesday of last week. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Kessing and young son, of Washington, D. C., arrived here last week for a visit to relatives. Mr. Kessing return ed to Washington on Tuesday. Mrs. Kessing, the former Miss Mary Jo Beck, will remain here several weeks. Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Evans, Mr. and Mrs. Mac Poole, Mr. and Mrs. Billy Merritt, Rev. and Mrs. J. L. Joyce, Misses Esther and Hilda Cheek and Col. Webb Evans of Carrboro attended the wedding of Miss Helten Dawson and Alexander White in Eureka last week. Also Mr. and Mrs. Bill Markgraff, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Cheek, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Williams, Mr. and Mrs. Ashwell Harward and Miss Mar garet Watts. Angus Wootten, who joined the army several weeks ago, was here on a weekend pass from Fort Bragg last week. A round table discussion was held on the life and works of Stephen Foster and the folowing selections by this com poser were given: “O Suzannah” by - Frances Smith; “Beautiful Dreamer” by Esther Lane Sharpe accompanied by Joan Turner; “Massuh’s in de Cold, Cold Ground” and “Swanee River” by the club. The next meeting will feature the life and works of Mc Dowell, and the Glee Club of fifty voices under the direction of Bill Kirkpatrick will sing. MELODY CLUB The Melody Club met Wednes day afternoon at the home of Mrs. W. M. Baker. The subject for the afternoon was “Mozart and Ha ydn”. Papers were read by Miss Peggy Foster and Miss Doris Phil lips and illustrations were given by Peggy Foster, Catherine Eger ten, Micky Crumpler and Doris Phillips. A sweet course was ser ved. SUPPER MEETING The Bingham Lodge of the Mas ons held their annual supper meet ing last Monday night in the Ki wanis Hall with the Eastern Star assisting in entertaining. St. Pat Tick decorations were used in the hall. About sixty members and guests were present. PERSONALS Mr. and Mrs. Jim Cheek oi Greensboro spent last weekend here with Mrs. Ed Farrell and Mrs. Mary Pendergrast. in Burlington last Sunday. They have also been attending the bed side of his uncle, S. E. Woody, who is very ill at his home near Saxa pahaw. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Faucette of Durham have been visiting Mrs. Annie Ray and family.
