George and Norman Barringer came from Richfield last Satur day and attended the Carolina Tennessee football game with Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Whitaker, with whom they spend the weekend. Joe Eldrige, Roy Riggsbee Jr. and'Dick Gimmosn drove through the country to Gettysburg, Fla., last week and spent several days. Mrs. Morris Fuqua of Yancey ville is spending this week here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dawson Hardee. Miss Ruth Carver returned -to her home, in Lowes Grove on last Monday after a visit here several days with Mrs. Lennie' Braxton, Mrs. Jim Neal and other friends. Miss Carver is formerly of Carr boro. Barnes, assistant farm agent for Orange county, held a meeting of the 4-H dub of the Carrboro school in the school auditorium on Wednesday morning^ October 29. A large number of boys and girls of the school are taking part in this splendid work and this was the school a meeting this school year. ,V Carrboro P.-T. A. Holds Meeting Carrboro — At the Parent Teacher meeting of the Carrboto school held on last Thursday eve ning the devotional was given by the Rev. J. L. Joyce, pastor of the Carrboro Methodist church, who held a meeting of the educational committee of the assodation after the regular meeting adjourned. Mrs. Jesse West, P.-T. A. pres ident, announced that refresh ments would be served at the November meeting. Miss Grace Haynes of the Durham Dairy Council of Durham gave an illus trated health lecture. Mrs. In Mann, Carrboro chairman for the North Carolina Symphony orches tra, made a plea for members in the membership drive now being conducted throughout North Caro lina/ She also announced a ndio broadcast for children—‘The Mus ical Merry-Go-Round”—a pro gram of music for children being sponsored by the North Carolina Symphony orchestra each Satur day morning over WDUK in Dur ham at 10:45. A large group of parents and interested persons weke present at the meeting. * New Scoutmaster Is Appointed Carrboro—Frank Lamson, a veteran of World War 2 and a stu dent at UNC who lives on North Greensboro street, has been chosen as Scout leader for the Boy Scout troop No. 45 of Carrboro to re place JDav id Dillehay who'recently resigned because" ofofher~duties. A scout party was held at the home of their new leader on last Friday evening. JOYCE ATTENDING METHODIST CONFERENCE Carrboro—The North Carolina annual conference of the Meth odist church which is meeting this ygjek in Elizabeth City Novem ber 5-9. The Rev. Alex P. Brant ly is pastor host. Bishop W. W. Peele, in charge of the Richmond area, will preside, and Dr. T. M. Grant, superintendent of the Rocky Mount district, will be the conference secretary. The Rev. Barber, Who come from Roseboro, have purchased the John Rogers home on Lindsay street and moved there several weeks ago. They have a son and daughter who are students in the Carrboro school. Mrs. Farrell was given a nice hand bag and matching gloves by the guests present which included the following: Mrs. Janie Clark, Mrs. Bill Baxter, Mrs. Jesse Hackney, Mrs. Frank Poythress, Mrs. Paul Sturdivant, Mrs. Grace Smith and the hostess, Mrs. Victor Stout. PRICES RETURN HOME Carrboro—Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Price of Rutherfordton left for their home on Monday of this week after a visit of several days here as the guests of Mrs. Price’s mother, Mrs. T. L. CARRBORO BOY 18 GRID 8TAR Carrboro—Roger Thrift, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wade Thrift of Carrboro who is a "student this year at the Eastern Carolina Teachers college and halfback on its football team Is credited with two touchdowns on opening kick offs according to the college paper. Thrift made a run of 75 yards for one, and 88 yards for the other. BIRTH ANNOUNCED Carrboro—Mr. and Mrs. Ash well B. Harward announce the birth of a son in Watts hospital | November 3. ' ____j Well-Baby Clinic Set November 5 Carrboro—The Well Baby clinic for this area will be held next Wednesday afternoon, November 5, at 2 o’clock in the Carrboro Health Center which is located just to the rear of the Carrboro school. This will be the per manent place for the clinic to be held in the future according to an announcement made by Mrs. W. E. Williams, president of the Carrboro Civic club. The clinics are held jointly by the club here and the Junior League of Chapel Hill, and have been held in Chapel Hill at various times. RECEPTION PLANNED A reception is being given on Thursday evening of this week for all UNC students who live in Carrboro. Those who are married are invited to bring their wives.
