A. will sponsor a> talent program at the Hillsboro' high school on Friday night, No vember 21, at 8 o’clock. The pro gram promises to be interesting from beginning to end. Parents and teachers from each school community in Orange county will participate in the program. A short one-act play will be pre-* sented by a few members of the Hillsboro high schpol faculty. The teachers glee club wall render three selections. Mrs. Lucy James and Marinda D*. McPherson are special soloists for the evening. THE CLEAN UP CAMPAIGN The clean up campaign, spon sored by the Garden club of Hills boro, was of great success to the entire community. The students chose the follow ing who in their opinion were the best citizens duting month of Oc tober: Winefred Collins received OCTC Seeking Mew Veterans For Farm Class The agriculture department of the Orange County Training school is accepting new veterans for the veterans program in farming which will begin January 1, 1948, under the supervision of the agri culture teacher, R. D. Smith. The program for 1948 will op erate under Public Law 377, 80th Congress, which sets up certain requirements and qualifications that each veteran must meet be fore entering the program. These requirements are: The new enroll ment will be confined to self-pro prietorship cases, the farm must be properly equipped, the size and quality of the farm must be a satisfactory facility for the vet erans training and productive enough to insure the trainee an income sufficient under normal conditions for reasonable living at least by the end of his training period, the veteran must be as sured control of farm until at least the completion of his- course either by lease, management agreement, or other tenure agree ment, the farm must be large enough to occupy the full time of the veteran, and the veteran must attend class regularly for at least twice a week for two hours each night. Those veteran farmers desiring to enter the program should do so Immediately as ail the paper work in connection with their entering the program must be in the Ra leigh office by January 1, 1948. All veterans should contact R. D. Smith at the Orange County Training school, Chapel Hill, by December 1, 1947. the highest rating; Hilda Ruffin, Petty McBroom, Constance Wil son, Annie D. Whitted, Daisy Mae Compton, Vivian Faribault, Marie Allison and Annie Wright were rated second in line of best citi zenship in the school. This ac tivity was carried on by the pupils in each class op-the-whole school. During the campaign, waste baskets were made from crate bas kets and placed all around the school grounds. New garbage cans were purchased and painted, then placed in the halls of the building. Several bicycle racks were made. The principle objectives of the clean up campaign is our hope that it will have some trans fer value, to be carried from the school to our homes.
