Carrboro By MRS. IRA MANN Mr. and-Mrs. J. W. Clark and their daughter, Miss Joyce Clark, visited their former home in China Grove at the weekend. They also visited Misses Sarah and .Lydia Moore near Lexington. Miss Doris Bradshaw, graduate nurse of Raleigh, has returned to her duties in Raleigh after a visit here With her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Bradshaw, and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Fields and Miss Madge Lois Ellington at tended the * Carolina-Tennessee game in Knoxville, Tenn., last Saturday. Misses Willie Ann Doss and Co leen Hackney, Dell Dollar and Vernon McCoy spent the last weekend in the mountains in the - western part of -the state.. Mr. and Mrs. William Clark and family have been visiting rela tives near Durham this week. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Williams returned last Sunday from a va cation trip into Virginia and the western part of the state'. They attended the Carolina-Tennessee game last Saturday in Knoxville. Mrs. W. B. Roberts left for her home in Smithfield on Wed nesday of this week after spend ing several days here* with Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Bayles and family. Mr. -and Mrs. Ollie Clark, and ' family and Mrs. Wade Bland vis ited relatives in Greensboro at the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hardee, Mr. and Mrs. Oysha Durham, Mrs. Earle Perry, Mr. and Mrs. I. F. Hardee and family of Carrboro at tended a birthday dinner last Sun day in Hillsboro, honoring D. T. Hardee of Hillsboro 'at his home there. A large number of rela tives and friends were present and carried picnic baskets. Bob Maynard, who is very ill, has returned to his home here after a stay of several days in i Watts Hospital, Durham. Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Wall and family visited relatives in Burling ton at the weekend. Donald Riggsbee and Wayne Ellington visited their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Tucker, in Albemarle from last Friday un til Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. O. B. Cate left last Sunday for their home in Nor cross, Ga„ after spending all last week here as the guests of Mr. Cate’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Ctrte, on-Laurel avenue. • Tiny Rackley, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Wilson and Miss Ann Rhodes were among those from Carrboro attending the Carolina Tennessee football game last Sat urday in Knoxville, Tenn. . -r, . < *■ ’ .. Miss Jane Banning, a student at Montreat, will return to her home here for the weekend this week. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mitchl Lanning, will come for the weekend from Alexandria, Va. Mr. arid Mrs. W. H'' Gibbs were weekend visitors to relatives in, Franklinton. Mrs. Bell Keck returned last Sunday f rohi a week’sstay with: her sister, Mrs. Ella Dawson, and Mrs. Clyde Minnis near Bahama. Mrs. Dawson, who has been very ill, shows little improvement. Carson Tripp of near Pittsboro j was the weekend guest of Mr. and j Mrs. Arthur Poschen and family. Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Webster j and family visited relatives in Burlington, at the weekend. - Mr. and Mrs. Edd Kadera of Iowa City were the guests last week of Mrs. Andy Anderson and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hardee._ Mr. and Mrs. Wilba Partin and their daughter, Gloria Annette, will go to Rocky Mount at the weekend to visit Mr. and „Mrs. G. H. Abernathy and family. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Brockwell visied Mrs. Brock well’s former home near Greenville last week. Mr. Brockwell, who went deer huntnig wifh, a party in that sec tion, was the only one in the party to kill a large buck. He brought the deer hide home and some of the deer steak. Sherrill Durham, Donna Pipkin and Andy Beaty attended a birth day party on last Thursday for Susan Gimmon in Victory Village. Susan was four years old. Raymond Andrews (Wimpy) and Mrs. Andrews are erecting a nice , brick home on the Hills boro highway near the M. E. Lan nings’ home. Halloween Guests A number of colorful Halloween parties were enjoyed at the week end in and around Carrboro. A Halloween party at the Orange Church hut was followed by a slumber party at the home of Misses Fay and Helen Hogan at tended' by ‘ Misses Ann Maddry, Anna and Nancy Tilson who spent the night with the Hogan family. Other parties included a party at the Carrboro Baptist Church on Friday evening and another on Saturday evening at the Stacy Neville cabin attended by a large group of young people. Teachers in the different Sunday Schools dircted games for the young peo ple. Joining Camporee ■ Members of the Carrboro Boy Scout Troop No. 45 and their lead er,"Frank Lawson, are taking paFt in the Scout Camporee being held this weekepd at Chapel Hill. The Scouts will be guests of the Uni versity at the, football’ game on Saturday between Carolina and William and. Mary. Birthday Party Tommy Goodrich, who was 10 years old last Saturday, was the guest of Honor on Saturday after noon from 2:30 to 4 o’clock at a birthday party at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Goodrich, on Parkway drive. Many games were enjoyed by the girls and. boys and ice cream and cake were served the 20 guests present by Tommy’s mother. Junior Red Cross Drive Starts Well The Junior Red Cross drive in the Carrboro School got off to a nice start this week under the direction of Mrs. R. B. Stude boro School has always been 100 per cent for the Red Cross all through the years and this year the drive is expected to go over in the same way. Mrs. L. D. Hearn Feted At Surprise Party Mrs. L. D. Hearn was given a surprise dinner party. at her home last Sunday on her birth day by her daughter, Mrs. Allen Brandon of Durham. The follow ing guests were present for the day: Mr. and Mrs. O. D.
