At 5:30 in the afternoon on Sun
day, June 26, the .first Methodist
Church of Hillsboro was the scene
Of an impressive wedding cere
mony when Miss Grace Isabel
Bivins, youngest daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Oder Eugene Bivins of
Hillsboro, and Lawrence Rene
Ffrench, youngest son of Mr. and
Mrs. L. A. Ffrench of Tampico,
Mexico pledged their vows be
fore the Rev. Charles Spence
Hubbard, pastor of the bride.
Vows were performed before
the altar which was banked with
magnolia and fern, and was
flanked by pedestal baskets of
lilies and white pompoms. Ca
thedral candles in wrought iron
candelabra lighted the altar.
Prior to the entrance of the
wedding party, Miss Nina Whit
aker, vocalist of Enfield, Miss
Suzanne Delaney, harpist, Mrs.
Francesr Denny, organist, and
Kenneth Smith, violinist, all of
Winston-Salem, presented a pro
gram of appropriate wedding mu
sic. Their selections included
“Ave Maria” by Bach-Gounod
the Second Movement from Bee
thpvanls. “Pathetique,” “Serenade”,
by Schubert, and two Chopin
“preludes.” The instrumentalists
played together, “Believe Me if
All Those Endearing Young
Charms.”
Miss Whitaker, "tKeT “vocalist,
sang “Ich Liebe Diech” by Grieg,
and “Wedding Prayer” by Dun
lay. The traditional marches were
used for the processional and re
cessional,. and Mrs. Denny played

sponse which was composed by
the bride. .
At the conclusion of the red
ding music the ushers entered
followed by the bride’s attendants.
Ushers were Taylor Bivins, broth
tr of the bride, Clarence Knight,
grother-in-law of the bride, both
of Hillsboro, Sim Eflund, of Ef
land, and Bill Stauber of Durham.
For her attendants the bride
chose Miss'Jean Maxwell of Hen
dersonville, Miss Jean Rankin of
High Point, and Miss Margaret
Rauhof of Pulaski, Virginia,'who
was with the bride in Venezuela.
Miss Betty Bivins, little niece
of the bride was flower girl, and
Mrs." James Jenkins of Hillsboro
attended her sister as matron of
honor.
Honorary brides maids were
Mrs. Hilston Pope, Miss Mary B.
Forrest, Miss Jean Gattis, Miss
Mary Susan Robertson, Miss Mau
rine Latta and Miss Mary Claytor,
all of Hillsboro, Miss Flora Efland
of Efland, and Miss Harriet Berry
of Miami, Fla.
The bridesmaids wore .iden
tical gowns of white dotted
organdy over nile green, and their
head-dresses were green taffeta
picture hat. They wore elbow
length green mitts and carried
arm bouquets of mixed summer
flowers.
The matron of honor wore a
gown of white dotted organdy
over lilac taffeta. The round neck
and short cap sleeves were
trimmed with a band of lilac satin.
A wide waist-band, also of lilac,
was tied in the back with a large
bow and ended in a trailing sash.
The mitts were made of self ma
terial and also dimmed with li
lac. The large picture hat of lilac
taffeta was open at the crown and
accented with a large bow in the
back. Her arm bouquet was df
mixed summer flowefs.
The flower girl wore a dress
similar to the other aUendmh;
and she carried a miniature bas
ket of.flowers. Her head-dress
was a bandeau of daisies- .

by Mrs. Clarence Knight and
Mrs. Taylor Bivins, sister and
sister-in-law of the bride. Mrs.
W. R. Underhill, cousin of the
bride, invited guests to the ter
race, and Mrs. Joseph Hughes pre
sided over the bride’s book. Mrs.
Herman Brown presided at the
punch bowl, and Mrs. E. M. Lock
hart cut the wedding cake. Mrs.
Albert Hughes of Auburn, Maine,
sister of the bride, assisted at the
bride’s book, and goodbyes were
said to Mrs. Herbert Riley and
Mrs. Elmer Dowdy. The honorary
bridesmaids served the guests, and
the wedding musicians presented
a • program of appropriate music
from the terrace.
Following the ceremony the
bride and bridegroom left for un
anounced points after which they
will return to Venezuela.
Mrs. Ffrench received her edu
cation at High Point College and
during the past school year was
employed as a teacher for the Sac
ony Vacuum Oil Company in Ba
rinas, Venezuela.
Mr. Ffrench was graduated
from Texas A. and M. College
from which he received & degree
in chemical engineering. For the
past two years'he has been em
ployed by United Oil Wells Ser
vice in Anzoatiaue.. Venezuela,
and in the future he will be ebn-"
nected with’ tfte Gulf Refining
Company in Puerto La Cruz, Ven
ezuela, where they will make their
home.

thage, Friday evening, June 17th
from 7:00 to 9:30, honoring Mr.
and Mrs. Fred S. Cates, Jr., of
Hillsboro, who were recently
married. Mrs. Cates is the fromer
Miss Elizabeth Thomas, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. and Mrs. Thomas.
Around one hundred and fifty
guests attended the reception
which was held on the twenty
fifth wedding anniversary of the
bride’s parent.
The home was beautifully dec
orated with lovely bowl of flow
ers. The green and white motiff
was carried out in the dining room

Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Ivoods Celebrate
Fiftieth Wedding. Anniversary at open house
On June 18, from " until 10
o’clock, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Woods
of Route i. Hurdle Mills, opened
their home to their relatives and
friends to celebrate their 50th
wedding anniversary.
The couple received before the
fireplace in the living room which
was banked with baskets of yellow
gladioli and boughs of magnolia.
Five yellow candles in a flat
wrought iron holder decorated the
center of the mantel.
Mrs. Woods wore a gray crepe
dress with a yoke of matching lace
sprinkled with rhinestones; the
dress was floor length with three
quarter sleeves and a back inter
est of looped drapes. She pinned
on her shoulder a corsage of yel
low roses.
Guests were greeted at the front
door by Mrs. R. G. Compton and
in the living room fey Mrs. W. G.
McDade.
The hall was decorated with an
arrangement of- mixed yellow
summer flowers. Here Mrs. F. D.
Alien presided at the guest book.
Mrs. R. E. Wilson received in
the gift room which was decorated
with magnolia blossom* And pot-_
ted palms. Wedding music was
played during the evening by

Holds Final Meeting
The Book-Bridge Club held its
final meeting of the year Tues
day night at' the Colonial Inn,
with Mrs. Carl Davis as hostess.
The club will not meet again
until September.

and have continued to live in that,
