Caldwell News MRS. ELIZABETH C. MURRAY Church Groups The W. S. C. S. of the New Bethel Church held its regular monthly meeting in the home of Mrs. Richard Gates last Friday evening. Mrs. Pattie Laws, in coming president for the year, presided. Mrs. Charlie Mangum had charge of the devotional. Fol lowing the devotional, the meeting was turned over to Miss Emma Cates, program- leader for the ■(+r- month. Miss Gates, together with Mrs. Reade Hall, Mrs. Elizabeth Murray, Mrs. Charlie Mangum, Miss Pattye Mae Laws, and Mrs. Travis McBroom, gave- talks on “the United Nations and the Christian Way of Living.”/ After the program, the hostess, assisted by her two daughters, Misses Emma and Margaret Gates, served fruit punch, cake, mints, and nuts to the following: Mes dames G. R. McKee, Harvey Gates, G. C. McBroom, Pattie Laws, Leona Gates, Charlie Mangum, Travis McBroom-, Reade Hall, Ad die Hall, and Elizabeth Murray - and Miss Pattye Mae Laws. ' ; Birth of Daughter ..' Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Berry announce the birth of avdaughter in Watts Hospital, Friday, July 15. Personals Miss Peggy ' McKee "returned Tuesday from a prolonged visit to her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. G. R. McKee, Jr., in Rock Hill, S. C. Little Kenneth, Norman, and Phyllis Parker, children of Mr. and Mrs. Hurley Parker of Dur ham, are visiting their grandpar ents, Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Paker. Miss Lola Miller, who under went a delicate eye operation re cently at' McPherson Hospital in Durham, is recuperating at the home of hre parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Miller. Miss Elizabeth Miller of Durr ham spent the--past weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Vets Disabled Out Of Service May Get Pensions North Carolina veterans of World War I or II who are unable to follow a gainful occupation be cause of disability may be enr titled, to a pension even though the disability is not a result of a military service. The North Carolina Veterans Commission announced that pen sion laws for non-sercice con nected disabilities have been lib eralized, thus affording older vet erans an opportunity to qualify for total disability despite the fact that the specific degree of disabil ity may not be total. Many vet erans wh aovhe been denied total disability in the past are eligible to apply again. Single veterans whose income [ annually is $1,000 or more, or vet erans with dependents whose in come is over $2,500, cannot qual ify Veterans whose employment is limited because of. a disability should contact the nearest office !fo the North Carolina Veterans Commission immediately. Service officers are familiar With the re quirements to be met and are ready to assist veterans in making proper application. Miller. Mr. and Mrs. Leeman Robinson of Durham and their three small children visited Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Porterfield Sunday. J Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Porterfield and Miss Lucy Porterfield, Mr, and Mrs. Leeman Robinson £tnd their three children, and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Robinson and their daughters, Lois and Linda, spent the day recently visiting.
