Returning to Seminary
Rev. Thomas Bland of Carrboro,
who has served the Carrboro Bap
tist church as educational director
this summer, will leave Sunday
to resume his studies at the Bap
tist Seminary at Louisville Ken
tucky. Rev. Bland is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Wade Bland of Carr
boro. The Rev. Joseph Fowler of
the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church
who has ordained in the Mt. Car
mel Church this summer, will acr
company Rev. Bland to enter the
Seminary for' training in the min
istry. Rev. Fowler is the son of
Mrs. Joseph Fowler and, the late
Mr. Fowler of near Mt. Ccfrmel.

Mrs. Buck Sparrow, who has
been very ill at her home here
since last Sunday, remains in a
^erious condition.
Mrs. James Yates who has been
a patient in Watts hospital since
Tuesday of last week1, is recovering
from an emergency operation. Her
condition is greatly improved.
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Lloyd and
Mr. Lloyd’s mother, Mrs. Brodie
Lloyd, have returned from a weeks
vacation trip to Carolina Beach.
Mr. and Mrs. Duke Williams
and children, Sandra and Tommy,
left last Saturday for a two weeks
tour of points of interest in Flori
da. They will visit Miami and
Key West.
Mrs. Paul Sturdivant has been
ill at her home here for several
days with pneumonia.
Misses Royce Mae Farrell and
Marie Perry spent last week with
Mr. and Mrs. Jene Carpenter in
Durham. '
Mrs. Gurney Gilmore has been
ill for several weeks at her home
near Calvander.
Mrs. Garland Hackney who has
been a patient at Watts Hospital
for the past week is recuperating
at her home near Damascus.

attended the funeral and’ burial
of Mrs. Braxton's aunt Mrs.
Lizzie Jones 78, which was held at
Big Meadows last Friday.
Miss Sarah B. Durham of Carr
boro and Miss Helen Morrow of
Chapel Hill left Mofiday for a va
cation trip to Virginia Beach. They
will also visit Mr. and Mrs. J. R.
Leigh and family in Norfolk, Va.
before returning home.
Visitors to Mr. and Mrs. William
Clark at the weekend were Mrs.
Clark’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nor
man Pickett, of near Durham.
Mr. and Mrs. Freddie Williams
and their two sons arrived here
last Saturday evening from Ft.
Worth , Texas for a visit with Mr.
Williams’ parents, Mr. and Mrs.
C. R.'Williams, and other rela
tives in this section.,
Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Deese and
family. Mr. Deese’s two sisters,
Misses Pearl and Dorothy Deese,
and Mr. Deese’s father, who have
been here on a visit to relatives,
left last Sunday morning for their
home in Jacksonville, Fla..
Mrs. Howard Hobby and chil
dren of Burlington are spending
several days here this week with
relatives.

the Order of the Eastern Star of
Chapel Hill who attended the Rob
Morris Day celebration held at the
Masonic and Eastern Star Home
in Greensboro on last Thursday.
More than 1,500 Masonic and East
ern Star members were present
from lodges and chapters through
out North Carolina.

turned from a vacation trip to
Morehead City.

spending a week in Watts Hospital
and underwent an operation, was
able to return to his home here on
Monday of this week.

day after a ten days stay in Watts
Hospital.
