About a year ago Hofler was transferred from Hillstxxro to Pine Tops under the patrol’s (policy of rotating the officers at regular in tervals, Fie is one of the oldest members-^ the patrol in point of service. Light Vote Seen In County In 2nd Primary Saturday Forrest Appointed Rural Mail Carrier Hillsboro—Charles M. Forrest has been appointed by the Post Office Department, Division of Rural Service, as rural mail car rier for Route No. 2 Hillsboro. R. C. Minnis Jr., has been tem porary carrier for Route No. 2 since Charles M. Malker Sr. re signed. • The route of Route No. 2 has been changed to a more direct route to Cedar Grove. The route procedes on Highway 86 to Black man's Comer west to Daxneran’s Comer and on to Cedar Grove. The route back to Hillsboro fol lows Highway 86 to Blackman’s corner, turns west and on to Dud’s Tavern. Route No. 2 new covers 41.23 miles. Route No. 1 has been extended to serve from the head of Chur ton Street to the intersection of 7QA-70 and south to Jim Mayo’s by way of Central High School. ■n— I Call Is Issued Fr Volunteer Plane Spotters Hillsboro — Walter G. Wren, chief observer for Hillsboro in the Air Observation Corps of the State Civil Defense organization, has issued a call for at least 30 civilian assistants to aid him in spotting, airplanes in the event of an alert. Wren said the volunteers could be of any age or race with the only stipulation being that th'ey have access to a telephone and can talk in an intelligible voice. Wren's office, which he occuv pies jointly -with the SUte High way Patrol, has been designated the observation post for Hillsboro, I The Volunteer spotters will re ' ceive detailed instructions later j as to their duties which will con sist mainly of looking for air planes in the event of an alert and making reports to a center in , Durham during an alert period only. * ---o BIBLE SCHOOL ANNOUNCED . Local Patrolnan Is Acquitted On Traffic Charge Hillsboro—An Orange County highway 'patrolman, .forced to the role of defendant by an irate min ister whom he had 'previously charged with a traffic violation, won his acquittal in County Court this .week. Patrolman 'Mann Norris Jr. of Hillsboro faced a charge of reck less driving brought by Colonel Hartman Bunn, a minister of the snake handling religious cult in Durham, after the latter had been tried' and convicted dor driving without a license on his trailer on charges brought by Norris. The prosecuting witness claim ed Norris crossed the yellow line when he pulled out from the shoulder after giving Bunn the ticket on (Highway 70 near the Eno River bridge. A total of 59 cases were hand led at Monday’s session of the court, among them a drunken driving case in which Judge L. J. Phipps imposed a fine of $500 and oosts on the defendant for his third offense. Malcolm Jordan was the defendant for whom a 12 months road sentence was sus pended.
