Carrboro 9y Mn. Ira Mann HONORED ON BIRTHDAY {Mrs. Octavia Couch was honored on her 78 birthday last Sunday October 12th when all her chil dren, grandchildren, neighbors dna friends gathered at her home in Carrboro, bringing picnic bas kets for the noonday meal together. The occasion was a most happy one for all present, especially- the bonoree who was so glad to have her children all together again for the day together. She was the recipiant of many lovely and useful gifts fbr h%r seventy eight birth day. REVIVAL Dr. Gilbert E. Rowe of Durham is assisting the Rev. M. E. Tyson pastor of the Carrboro Methodist Church in a series of revival ser - vices at the church here all this week begin ing each evening at 7:30. The services which began last Sunday Oct. 12th will continue through next Sunday October 10th Every one is given a most cordial invitation to attend these most in spiring services. i ON FURLOUGH Thomas Davis of Carrfcoro who is stationed with the U. S. Army at Fort Jackson, South Carolina was here at the last weekend on a short furlough with his wife, and other relatives in this area. Mrs. Davis will go to Fort Jackson in a few days to join him at camp, for a visit there. SPECIAL GUE8T Mrs. John Humphreys, Worthy Matron of the University Chapter O. E. S. of Chapel Hill, Mrs. Katharine Thomas Jr. past Matron of the order, also of Chapel Hill and Mr and Mrs. Ira Mann, of Carrboro were special guests last friday evening at the Southgate Chapter, Order of .the Eastern Star at a covered dish supper followed by a -special program, celebrating “Friends Night.” These guests mentioned all took part in the program. Clark were enroute to Murphy in the western part of the state for a visit with Rev. and Mrs. Floyd B. Clark They will also visit Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Woolaxd, an<f the Misses Sarah and Lydia Moore at the Baptist Assembly at Fruit land, near Hendersonville. REVIVAL Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Clark Sr. and Mrs. Ira Mann have been at tending the series of revival ser vices for the past two weeks at the Andrews Memorial Baptist Church in Graham. The Rev. Dou glas Winn, evangelist, is assisting the pastor of the church in Graham who is the Rev. Eugene Hancock. Special music is a feature of the services which begin each evening at 7:30. The revival which began October 5t will continue through October 9th. Every one is given a most cordial invitation to attend the meetings. Mr. Warren is state president and presided at the business ses sion, when plans were discussed to preserve the flora of North Carolina. Mrs. H. R. Totten of Chapel Hill heads the nominating committee. E. T. Browne, Jr., of the Caro lina Biological Company at Eton College giave an illustrated lec ture on “North Carolina Lilies.” Members attended from Chapel Hill, Greensboro Asheboro and Liberty. > Street in Carrboro is enlarging the present building to almost twice its size. The firm is also adding much new machinery, and other wise improving the Carr boro plant. CELEBRATE ^BIRTHDAYS John Crabtree who iives out on the Durham Road near Chapel Hill, and . his son Hoyt Crabtree of Greensboro Street Carrboro were honored on their joint birth days at a dinner given by Mrs. John Crabtree at her home. All children of the John Crabtree’s were present and also a number of grandchildren, enjoyed the birthday dinner and the day to gether for the family. NEW HOME iMr. and Mss. Bruce Riggsbee have improved their home on Maple Street in £arnboro by en larging the home, painting, paper ing and completely renovating the home, inside and out. RECUPERATING Mrs. L R. Sturdivant former principal of the Carrboro School, is recuperating at her home 'in Carrboro after undergoing a most serious operation in the N. C. Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill. ILL Mrs. Jesse West has been ill at her home in Carrboro for sev eral days. MRS. HOBBY ILL iMrs Hattie Hobby has been ill at her home here for the past ten ' days.
