Per capita retail sales
are rising!
Annual N. C. per capita retail sales as of June 30,
4.73% over the previous year. Greater per capita «
sales mean a growing market for home-grown and
home-made products, thus helping tor build a more
prosperous North Carolina in which to work, to play
and to liye.
Another contribution to the economy as well as to
more pleasant living for North Carolinians is the
malt beverage industry program where brewers,
wholesalers and retailers cooperate to maintain
wholesome conditions wherever the legal sale of beer
and ale is permitted under State control.

Full Support
To "S-D Day

Pledging the full support of the*

„T.ie, goal this year will be to
cut down on traffic accidents, not
only on S-D Day, itself, but for
j the 21-day period beginning No

contini\ing through December 11—
“S-D plus 10.”
Mayor Johnston said: ___
“The purpose of the S-D Day
campaign is the same this -year, as
last: TcF proveTfiat we can reduce

- “Last -year, S-D Day did. in fact,
produce a reduction in the Nation’s
deaths and injuries, and in the
number of accidents. This year,
the urgency is even* greater, be
cause the nationwide death toll has
been climbing again.
“Nobody thinks that the streets
and highways can suddenly be
made, .safe by a short campaign,
building up to a special Jday.’ Nor
is the S-D Day program being un
dertaken with the idea of encour
aging people to avoid accidents for

“The S-D Day objective is to
call attention to the necessity for
sound, proven, year-around safety
programs, supported — the year
around—by every citizen.
“This campaign offers us the
incentive to take stock of our be
havior—as individuals, and as a
community—in the matter of traf
fic safety. It is an opportunity to
remind ourselves of our moral and
civic responsibility for safe driv
