County Is Organized For Hodges A committee of over 100 cit izens, broken down into smaller committees for each of the coun ty’s 19 votuig precincts, has been named to handle the campaign for governor Hodges in the forth coming Primary The committees were organized by Representative John W. Efland, by their mo thers, following words of praise and affection by their first scout >»_■ ■ ,_• - - Mass Meeting Called To Oppose Auto Races A mass nfceting of citizens op posed to race tracks and Sunday racing in Orange County has been scheduled for Saturday, May 5 at 7:30 pm. at the Gospel Baptist Tabernacle on Orange Grove Road Announcement of the meeting was made- ycst«rday b>’ the ,Re£ W I Conway, who has been lead ing a campaign against the open ing of a Jalopy Race Track just off the Orange Grove road in the community in which his churcn is located. , Mr. Conway who first presented his opposition with the full back ing of his congregation at a meet ing of the Board of County Commis sioners earlier this month, sa.d he had received no indication county officials - that anything could be done to prevent the new ;V -:v '■'• sly ; track’s opening- He pc naf' consulted a private attorney with regard tri p ssible legal action, but he gave no indication what steps, if aby, might Be taken. At the present time, the admission will be 25if per player. The course will be operated by the. Exchange Club membership without remuneration except for the joy and pleasure that they will receive from having a part in de veloping a recreation park for Hillsboro and surrounding areas. The need for a recreation park in .Hillsboro has long been recog nized. A major stride h|s been taken towards making this need come true. Seven fsM, one-h#lf acres of land has bherf purchased. A lot of clearing up and planning has been done. Now, through mem bers of the Club personally endors-" ing loan notes, the golf course is completed. The Club hopes to have before too long cooking ovens and picnic tables available for use. May 5 at 2 o'clock, at the polling place in the various pre cincts with the exception of Hillsboro, where the meeting will be at the courthouse. The principal purpose of the precinct meetings will be the election of the precinct commit tees, elect delegates for th^coun ,ty convention, and then make pre liminary plans for the May 28th primary. • 1 The precinct committee usually consist of five members, a chair man, vice-chairman; and * three H board members.
