Sheriff Lists Four Raids During April Orange County Sheriff C. D. Knight reported to the County Commissioners Monday that during the month of April four raids weref conducted, eight investiga tions, and $25 collected for sale of copper. There were 62 arrests, 49 civil papers served and 125 subpoenas served on witnesses for court. Fines and costs given by court during the April term to defend ants in cases originating in the Sheriff’s Dept, totaled $610.40. There was a total of 5 years given defendants who were given suspended sentences or placed on probation. Sentences given last month in cases originating in this department totaled 12 years and 8 months. $220.68 was collected for serv ing civil papers. The following trips were made out of Orange County: 1 to Butner to take patient; 6 to Goldsboro to take patients; 2 to Raleigh to take prisoners; 11 to Salisbury to take patient; 1 to Greensboro to take prisoner; 1 to Greensboro to get prisoner and 1 trip to Thomasville to get prisoner. -0-— Use extreme caution in and around farm ponds. Scouts Work On Forestry Badges Boy Scouts throughout North Carolina are working on Forestry Merit Badges this month as a special program on conservation in Scouting gets under way. The project is a cooperative en deavor among the various Scouting Councils in North Carolina and the North Carolina Chapter of the Soil Conservation Society of Amer ica. The three conservation Merit Badges being given particular at tention in this program are Forest ry. Soil and Water Conservation, and Wildlife management. In most cases two to four teaching sessions will be devoted to each of the subjects in which Scouts wish to earn Merit Badges. Describes the reasons for a certain amount of rivalry among brothers and sisters, the varied manifesta tions of it, and means of holding natural friction to a minuimim. The Shema is re cited, verses learned from the Torah, and reading taught from carda. At home the mother teaches the daughters, and in Ihe evening the father reads to the family once more. Sixth Fleet and NATO Striking Forces, The ship arrived in Naples, Italy, March. 28 and stayed for 10 days while participating in the celebration of the 10th anniversary of NATO.
