At present the rectangular shaped town limits enclose an area of 480 acres. As a result of action taken at a special meeting of the (Board of Commissioners on Tues day night, a public bearing will be held Jan. 18 on the annexation of four specific areas on the nortjj, and west sides of town. Neighbors, 18. of Durham, was placed on a three-year probation when they pleaded guilty in Superior Court on Dec. 18 to charges of store breaking and larceny. The pair was involved in the theft of a 250-pound safe containing $800 and valuable papers, from Elmer Pendergrapht’s Service Station Carrbor^ on Sept. 4. B. Todd regarding the municipality’s proposal to annex several north, and west-sidd neighborhoods. Citizens of the suburban areas will be provided, if they want them, copies of the recent survey of the entire annexa tion, as, prepared by the Institute of Government, according to Mayor Todd. In addition, he said, the Town officials hoped to set WP an informational meeting prior to the legal hearing. : In support of the annexation proposals the Mayor made these points: •The Fire Department would be moved nearer the center of town in the municipal building (old school building) — asstitnin« the forthcoming referendum for purchase and .improvement of this land is approved. •Round-the-clock police and fire protection would be pro vided by the hiring of a third policeman. • Garhagj collection Vculd be started in the new area within 3 month. • Suburban residents who have installed sewer and water lines at their owu expense would be re-imbursed proportionately for the Town taking over these lines. • Water rates and sewer rent# would be reduced to the subur ban areas being annexed.
