Junior dairy show set Aug. 15; tobacco field day next Thursday TOBACCO FIELD DAY The annual Tobacco Field Day for Orange County farmers- will be held at the Oxfo.d Tobacco Re search Station July 21 at 2 p.m. The Station is located one mile Soutowest of ox;„cd. This will be a good chance to see the experimental werk that is being conducted on tobacco, plus some demonstrations showing some of the best and most up-to date production practices. Some of the things that will be seen and discussed at the Station ere: Old and new varieties, develop ment of new varieties, irrigation, brown spot and mosaic control, and recovery of bail damaged tobacco. The tour will leave the Agricultural Budding on Foster Street to Durham at 2 p.m. Cars will be left there and travel will be in air-conditioned buses. The Durham County Committee has lined up a very attractive * program which will include a visit to tobacco factory, small fruit and vegetable enterprise, rose-culture project <100 different varieties), beef cattle management, modern housing development, Research Triangle, Nelson Community, and South Patterson Rural Youth Pro gram and supper. JUNIOR DAIRY SHOW Hugh Wilson, Orange County dairy farmer and newly-elected Chairman of the Committee to promote the 1960 Junior Dairy Show, amncuLiced that this show will be held the night of August IS, at tho Hilisooro High School A.hle.c Park. This is the second a'-ud Jurri.r Dairy Show. Last year there were about 30 Fcur-H and FFA beys and girts who exhibited their dairy animals. GARDEN CONTEST A garden contest is being held by the Schley Community ki con nection with their food produc tion prgpram. Juging will be done this Friday, July 15, by local agri cultural workers.
