The Knapp Foundation, Inc. of
New York City has given $50,000
to the University to be used in
air-conditioning the Joseph Pal
mer Knapp Building here which
houses the Institute of Govern
ment:

jointly announced the gift.
The Knapp Foundation gave
$300,000 in 1932 to match an equal
amount from the state of North
Carolina to build the structure
named for Joseph P. iu»pp, tw
iner business executive and pub
lisher of Colliers Weekly, The
American Magazine, the Woman’*
Home Companion and other maga
zines.
Mr. Knapp died in 1951. aod the
gift in memory of bar husband
