A double front room over the Ledbetter-Pickard store in mid-town has been given to the party for campaign use by Jce Page and Ted Donziger. County Democratic Chairman Jim I Phipps said the office is expected to be occupied and opened within a few days. CHAPEL HILL AUTO DEALER Doug Yates captured 10th place and $700 prize money in the Dar lington "‘500” race on Labor Day. It’s expected thi^ put him in the top 20 racers in NASCAR point standing. Driving his own 1959 Plymouth, Doug made four pit stops of about a minute each dur ing the race. Because of wear and tear on the hot asphalt track he also had four tire changes. THE $4,000 FUND CAMPAIGN for a bath-house and fence at the swimming pool now being built on the Chapel Hill Negro Com munity Center property has been postponed until next winter or spring so as not to conflict with the forthcoming Community Chest campaign. Although the pool or ganization was not included in the Chest budget for next year, it’s expected to be a part of the joint fund appeal in the 1962 drive. HILLSBORO’S 200,000 GALLON water storage tank is undergoing, a good scraping and re-painting, ' inside and- out. Six days will be required for the job. Meanwhile, water is being pumped from the filter plant direct to users, ac counting for occasional variances in pressure. THE PORTE-COCHERE EN trance to the Carolina Inn—the one that fell victim to a circus truck and sports car hot-rodders last spring—is being rebuilt to more current auto standards. Con structed in the “T-Model era, the old entrance was a hazard for auto hubcaps and fenders. The re-built structure will retain the wooden archway, but is to have a wider cOrb-to-ourb driving area.
