Republican Congressional nominee Col. Holland Robb of
• Chapel Hill continues to blaze a brisk campaign trail both
within and without the Sixth District. Last week he met
Nixon in Charlotte. Wednesday he stumped in Hillsboro. „
Thursday and again Friday he was in Guilford. Tuesday
he met Durham Republican women, yesterday with Sec. of
Commerce Mueller at the State Fair, and tomorrow with
Gavin in Orange County.
Incidentally, the report from Robb partisans in high
Guilford is that their noil shows the Republican nom
inee for Congress and the rest of the GOP ticket cur
rently the choice of 45 per cent of the votes in that
area.
Democrats of Orange staged the ooenine of their West
Hillsboro HQ last Friday afternoon with plenty of hooola

Alcoholism Council
The Orange County ABC
Board has established a 10
member Council on Alcoholism.
The new group was given a
first-year budget of $8,000 to be
gip an attempt to curb alcohol
ism through programs of edu
cation and rehabilitation. The
Rev. W. C. Porter was chosen
to head the new council.

Recent changes in the Orange
County G.O.P. organization are as

C. David Jenkins of 735 Main
St. Carrboro has been designated
as Republican member of the
Orange County Board of Elections
upon the recommendation of the
Orange County Republican Com
mittee and William E. Cdbb. State
Chairman of the Republican Par
ty. Mr. Jenkins succeeds Frank
W. Klingberg who has resigned
due to his departure from the
state. Mr. Jenkins is an assistant
professor in cluneal psychology at
the University.
Mrs. Kay Whybum of Roberson
Drive, Chapel HiH, has been ap
pointed Secretary of the Orange
County Republican Committee suc
ceeding L. M. Rees of Oakwood
Drive, Chapel Hill, who-'resigned
because of pressure of his other
duties.
Mrs. Pat Unger of 173 Hamil
ton Road has been appointed pre
cinct chairman for the fifth Pre
cinct of Chapel Hill in place of
L. M. Rees. Mrs. Unger is also
President of the recently organ
ized Young Republican’s c!ub.
Elvin E. Scheer of Route Ore.
Chapel Hill has been appointed
chairman for the White Cross
Precinct. Mr. Scheer is a retired
army master sergeant and has
been living in the White Cross
area for several years.

SOMMER PREPARING BOOK
Ait Prof. Clemens Sommer is
completing a book for publication
next year on “Late Gothic Sculp
ture of Northern Europe.” Back
at the University of North Caro
lina after a year as visiting pro
fessor on a Fulbright grant at the
University of Frieburg, Germany,
Prof. Sommer accumulated ma
terials on medieval sculpture that
will be useful in the impending
volume.
Chapel Hill republicans
plan to join parade
A “Caravan for Gavin” will be
formed here at Chapel Hill on
tomorrow morning, to join the
statewide GOP group as R moves
through Orange County.
Those interested in joining tbis
group are asked to meet at the
Glen Lennox shopping center
parking lot at 9 a.m. tomorrow.
Drivers are urged to decorate
their cars with banners, bumper
stickers, etc. The group will go
to Hillsboro to hear Mr. Gavin
speak at the county courthouse at
10 a.m.
Immediately following this the
caravan will return to Chapel
Hill with Mr. Gavin where he
will speak at 11 a.m.
