The new group was given a first-year budget of $8,000 to be gip an attempt to curb alcohol ism through programs of edu cation and rehabilitation. The Rev. W. C. David Jenkins of 735 Main St. Carrboro has been designated as Republican member of the Orange County Board of Elections upon the recommendation of the Orange County Republican Com mittee and William E. Cdbb. State Chairman of the Republican Par ty. Mr. Jenkins succeeds Frank W. Klingberg who has resigned due to his departure from the state. Mr. Jenkins is an assistant professor in cluneal psychology at the University. SOMMER PREPARING BOOK Ait Prof. Clemens Sommer is completing a book for publication next year on “Late Gothic Sculp ture of Northern Europe.” Back at the University of North Caro lina after a year as visiting pro fessor on a Fulbright grant at the University of Frieburg, Germany, Prof. Sommer accumulated ma terials on medieval sculpture that will be useful in the impending volume. Chapel Hill republicans plan to join parade A “Caravan for Gavin” will be formed here at Chapel Hill on tomorrow morning, to join the statewide GOP group as R moves through Orange County. Those interested in joining tbis group are asked to meet at the Glen Lennox shopping center parking lot at 9 a.m. tomorrow.
