Sewer rates based on water
consumption have been proposed
to the Town of Chapel Hill,
The idea was aired before the
Hoard of Aldermen by Town Man
ager Thomas D. Rose. He sug
gested this as “a much fai er”

whereby a flat $12 annual charge
is made for each water closet in
a dwelling.
The Board’s Finance Committee
had been asked to study a po
licy for sewer charges with the
idea of bringing the fees more
closely M' line with the actual
cost of rendering the service to
individual residents.

County to buy
five new cars
from Yates'
Five new cars Will be bought
by the Coun.y under a contract
for $9,097 awarded to Yates Mo
tor Co. of Chapel Hill.
The County Commissioners last
Friday approved Yates’ bid as
the lowest of four on four patrol
cars for the sheriff’s depart
ment and a new vehicle for the
tax collector. The sheriffs will
get 1961 Ply mouths and the tax
collector, a Valiant.
The commissioners also re
ceived the resolution from the
Chapel Hill School Board for a
school bond election next year.
No action is scheduled until their
next regular meeting.

recreation planners
Twenty local citizens have been
appointed to original membership
on the newly-created Recreation
Planning Commit.ee for Chapel
Hill.
The group was set up by the
Town aldermen m recommenda
tion of the local Recreation Com
mission to" act as a liaison be
tweenhe-Coimmision and the
District Planning Board in work
ing toward the objective «cf a lo
cal public recreation program.
Alderman Mrs. Harold Walters,
a member of the Recreation Com
mission, said the members of
the Committee, as recommended
for appointment by the Commis
sion and named by the aldermen,
were intended to be representa
tive of all interests concerned
with recreation locally.
