Chief Justice Wallace Winborne ordered the session for the hearing of motions on the log jam in civil docket. Judge L Richardson Preyer of Greensboro will preside. ■ THE COUNTY ABC BOARD asks that it be announced that the ABC stores must by law be closed all day tomorrow in observance of Veterans Day (formerly Arm istice Day», Nov. 11. THE COUNTY’S ABC OFFI cers nabbed a bootleg liquor mak er at his rig hard by the town park in Hillsboro last week. Last Monday, as they adjourned their meeting in Hillsboro, the ‘ABC Board members were interested to see the defendant walking out of Orange County Store No. One with his legally-made purchase tucked under arm. THIS BOOTLEGGER, INCIDENT tally, was nabbed on the basis of a tip lor which the officers paid the informant 50 cents! The Board considers money it pays to in formers—generally $15 to $20 per instance—to be the best money they spend for law enforcement. The sum of $500 has been allo cated for this purpose. POSTAL AUTHORITIES AND police in Chapel Hill recently ar rested a traveling magazine sales man on charges of theft from mailboxes. -The peddler checked in at the police department at 9:30 and got his permit to solicit azine subscriptions. A half ..w.1 later, in response to com plaints along N. Columbia St., he was in jail under $1,900 bond for pilfering from mail boxes E. FRANKLIN ST. MERCHANTS in Chapel -Hill met yesterday to discuss their project to have a metal marquee constructed over the sidewalk of the main business block. It appears the cost will be $30 to $40 a foot. They decided to call ?a formal meeting again in the near future to sign up mer chants to install the sidewalk roof ing. MRS. SUSIE WEAVER OF Chapel Hill, is the winner of the annual Beauticians Popularity Contest sponsored by the Caro lina Times, Durham Negro week ly, will get a free round-trip air plane flight to Hawaii. A CONSIDERATE THIEF IN Raleigh made off with a Chapel Hill woman's pocketbook at the bus station there the other day, but left her a ticket to get home.
