A WIERD TRAFFIC SMASH up that narrowly averted being a tragedy occurred in mid-town Chapel Hill Monday afternoon. Mrs. Pat Lawing got in her car to back out of the merchants’ parking lot when the starter stuck and it shot back at full tilt across the street, narrowly missing fast hopping attorney Jack LeGrand, and plowing, wheels still grind ing, into Bill Ray’s parked car in front of his lawn mower shop. The parked car smashed into the side of his building, damaging it. too. In all there was several hun dred dollars property and oar damage.
