VOL 68 NO. 19
HILLSBORO AND CHAPEL HILL, N. C., THURSDAY, MAY 11, 1961
HAS ANYBODY EVER HEARD
of a neighborhood in the Knolls
Development of Chapel Hill be
ing called “PiesviUe?” It was re
ferred to at the realtors’ meet
ing on urban renewal recently.
But authorities on -native geogra
phy say they haven’t heard the
name used before. —Can tell you
- about Tombstone Territory, Dead
Man’s Curve, the Bloody Bucket,
and Obie’s Bottom. But never
beard of “Piesville.”
THE VALUE OF REAL Es
tate bordering on W. Rosemary
St. in Chapel Hill will be • en
hanced by the proposed widening
of the street—in the opinion of
the Chapel Hill Board of Real
tors—in excess of the value of
frontage that will have to be ta
ken for this purpose. The real
tors were asked by the Town
- Board to assess the property con
cerned. The Town is planning
momentarily to contact the indi
vidual land o.wners and begin ne
gotiations with them.
DOWNTOWN BUSINESSMAN
Joe Robbins said yesterday he’d
''received a number of compli
ments on the metal canopy being
erected over the sidewalk in front
of his store. Workmen got the
roof up just in time for Tuesday
afternoon’s torrential showers.
THERE WAS NO COMPLAINT
about it. But town officials spec
ulated Monday night on how the
Clerk of Courf’s bank account
contained a few dollars more
than he took in, according to the
official audit. Question asked
was whether any money out of
his own pocket went into the of
ficial deposits. By way of partial
explanation the clerk noted he
had a check far $7.75 from the
High Point Police Dept, that no
body here or in High Point could
justify. Nonetheless it’s been de
posited! '

spending days escorting and pav

woman-salesman seeking contri

don’t appreciate such foot-in-the

The 932-page tome—a veritable

listed variously as a member of
the Veterans Affairs Committee,

W. Main St., Carrboro, between

L. Vine, was that of a diamond
brooch belonging to Mrs. Vine,
estimated value $2,000.
